East cmd West Campus Students Learn to Speak, Above, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. Miss Doris McKinney discusses Spanish techniques with a student in the East Campus Language Lab. OThe Language Arts Department, chair- maned by Mrs. Melba Wixom and Mrs. Ellen Bay, is comprised of many different and in- teresting subiects and activities. Among them are the foreign language courses, drama, speech, debate, iournalism, and the various English courses taught to all Freshmen, Soph- omores, Juniors, and as an elective to Seniors. In the English classes students are taught creative writing, the use of good grammar, and the different forms of literature, while the French, German, Spanish, and Latin classes strive to learn the basic fundamentals of learning to speak a language fluently. Producing the school play, My Three Angel's, and An Evening of One Act Plays, organizing and conducting speech contests, and playing hosts to debate tournaments are but a few of the many extra-curricular activ- ities sponsored by the Language Arts De- partment. At left, GREAT WAY TO STUDY. A parody on What's My Line is given in Mrs. Ellen 'K Bay's Sophomore Honar's English class. 104 At left, DISCUSSION TIME. Al Butkus, Al Brauch, Chuck Reid, Bob Barnett, and Jane Drew lead a discussion on John Brown's Body during Mrs. Melba Wixom's Junior Honar's English class.
