To Reliring Classroom Teachers JVLIEN D. HILLS XVTHS, 1928-1958 O The foreign language department will lose one of its talented teachers this june with the retirement of Julien D. Hills, Latin instructor. Mr. Hills will retire after thirty and one half years of teaching here and three years in other schools. In addition to his teach- ing record, Mr. Hills has an unusual service record, having served in the U.S. Army in both World NVar 1 and 11. ln Mforld lVar 11 he participated in both the Okinawa and Leyte campaigns. His preparation for teaching includes work at Simpson College, Drake University, Harvard Uni- versity, B.A., Iowa University, Stanford University, M.A., and Berlitz School of Languages. Mr. Hills has taught Latin, French, English, Ancient and NVorld History. His hobbies of railroads, hiking, and travel have been pursued over many years. Mr. Hills' spon- sorship of the Latin Club, as well his teaching, has given many students the privilege ol sharing his wealth of information in innumerable fields. Some early editions of the Annual XV brought back memories. EMERSON H. COLE XVTHS, 1925-1958 O Emerson H. Cole will retire from Wlfaukegan Town- ship High School this year after having taught here for thirty-three years. In addition to the teaching years at X'Vaukegan, Mr. Cole gave five years to teaching in other places. Mr. Cole's preparation for teaching includes at- tendance at Beloit College, the University of Wiscon- sin, B.A. degree, University of Chicago, M.A. degree. Mr. Cole also records one year of service in the U.S. Army during World X'Var 1. During his years at XVaukegan High School, Mr. Cole has taught algebra, geometry, and commercial subjects including arithmetic, geography, English, and general business training. Music can well be listed as Mr. Cole's chief hobby. He is a member of the lvaukegan Philharmonic S0- ciety and served as a soloist in a quartet for twenty- one years at St. Luke's Episcopal Church at Evanston. Mr. Cole's home is in lvaukegan where he will contin- ue to enjoy his hobbies ol' music, reading, and walking.
