M K. ff O WVith the breaking of ground for construction last November and the raising of the first steel beams in March of this year, VVest Campus High School began to take on physi- cal form. What had been only a dream in the minds of those who first realized the need for a new school, has now been crystallized into reality. It was just one year after the suc- cessful referendum vote cast by VVau- kegan Township citizens authorizing the building of a new high school and also the bonding issue to make the school possible, that construction was officially begun. The referendum was held November 20, 19563 ground- breaking ceremonies were observed on November 21, l957. Unusually favorable weather condi- tions niacle possible steady progress in grading, excavating, and in the laying of foundations throughout the winter months. Early spring saw the First above ground construction. The past few weeks have seen rapid progress. The wings of the sprawling structure have taken shape. Slowly, but surely, Wfest Campus High is emerging from the blueprint stage. Concrete and steel, later tile and glass, plastic and wood will be employed to make the metamorphosis complete. By September, 1959, it is antici' pated that VVest Campus High will be ready for occupancy. Serving Wallke- gan youth will be two high schools. To be sure, they will be a mile apart: but in service, they will be SIDE BY SIDE. llEl,OXV: Portion of the crowd of citizens mresent at the official . - v V I ground-breaking ceremonies at the XX est Lampus hear Nlrs. jane Weis of the Iloarcl ol' Education explain plans for the new school.
