Adult Evening ehool Ends 31st Year FEORGE W OSBUN Evening School Director OR the past thlrty one years an adult ewenlng school program ha been offered 1n Vlfaukegan Th1s has been made posslble throu h the courtesy of the Board of Educatlon 1n maklng the fac1l1t1es of W T H S ax allable to the adults of th1s communlty The program has rown from small begmnmgs to the present offerlngs of elghty five courses whlch attracted 1 902 students for both semesters of thls school year Men and women of all ages attend the e classes mhlch are deslgned to help them make better use of the1r lelsure tlme to IIIIIJPOWC themselves 1n skllls that apply at home or on the job and to earn credlts toward a dlploma There are no entrance requlrements except for those seeklng hlgh school credlt I' xfteen students must enroll 1n a subject to or anlze a class A certlficate of attfunment IS gnen to each student who does satlsfactory work and has an 80 percent attendance record Reasonable tu1t1on fees are charged to cover the operaung expen es of the evemng program All classes began ln Septembcr except the lecture courses whxch began IH October Each lecture course met from 7 to 9 o clock one nlght a week for e1ght weeks All other classes met for fifteen weeks one or two mghts per week Monday throu h Thursday from 7 to 9 o clock F1fteen students must enroll 1n a subject to organlze a class w1th the exceptlon of swlmmlng lll wshlch the mlmmum number IS twentv Each mdustrlal class IS l1m1ted to a maxlmum of twentv students O er Tenth Annual ummer Sesslon CHARLES A MELTON Summer School Dzrector 'N elght weeks summer school SCSSIOH was first conducted 1n 1945 and each summer smce courses haue been offered to all hlgh school students ln Lake County The summer sesslon starts on the Monday fOll0W1I1g the close of the regular term 1n ,lune Classes are taught 1n all courses for whlch there IS sulliclent demand and those most fre quently requested are Fngll h Soclal Studles Mathematlcs Sclence and Typm The program IS s0 arranged that all classes are taught ln the mornlng hours whlle the bulldlng IS cool thus leavlng the afternoons free for students to work or take advantage of the recreatlonal act1v1t1es pro Vlded by the parks and beaches All classes are one and one half hours 1n length Students are requlred to be 1n school only for the tlme thelr classes are rn sesslon and two subjects IS an average load per student For each subject Caffled successfully a student TCCCIVCS one semester s credlt and the summer school IS fully accredlted by the State Depart ment of Pubhc Instructlon In order to make the summer school pay 1ts own way a tu1t1on fee of S10 per subject IS charged The summer school program offers the followlng advantages Q1 It enables students to make up credlts lost because of lllness or other causes 2 lt makes lt posslble for students to TSVICW some subject 1n order to garn a better or more thorough knowledge of the materlal covered Q35 It encourages students to earn extra credlts to be better prepared to meet the entrance requlrements to colleges and un1vers1t1es and Q4 It offers the opportumtv for students to accelerate thelr hlgh school programs 28 ' 7 .H 7 7.
