FOREWORD Ye who love a nations legends. Love the ballads of a people. That like voices from afar off Call to us to pause and listen, Speak in tones so plain and child-like. Scarcely can the ear distinguish Whether they are sung or spoken ;— Listen to this Indian Legend, To this Song of Hiawatha!” Longfellow Hiawatha, the legendary Indian of yore, somehow has caught our fancy. We have portrayed the story of the redman throughout the hook in our writeups and art work. This theme, suggested by two young braves on our staff, Robert Olson and Charles Filstead, fascinated us and we believe that it will strike a romantic note in every true American heart. With its atmosphere of the hazy past and its Indian quaintness, we hope this yearbook will intrigue you. The Editor
