It is minutes and seasons and years. It is giggles and tears. Enjoyment and things we’re afraid of It’s the stuff we are made of. Time is Christmas and measles. It's birthdays, and marking the wall To show us how tall We've grown since the birthday before It's what we remember and what is arriving or going It's a wave which is flowing Past an invisible shore. Changing from minute to minute. It's a sea. And we're all swimming in it. Jones, President of the Board Xss-.sv.-. oooooboo wQQw ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------1 — The year is 1989, and the class of Waukee Community High School of 1969 are enjoying their 20th reunion. They are in a jolly and frolicksome mood and decide to take the 20 year old school bus to reminisce the years past. A few miles from their favorite and well used picnic spot, in the heart of Jester Park they ran out of gas. They were within the vicinity of a lovely but rather confused looking little town called Calamity Comers . It seemed strangely odd since the entire population consisted of 22 bachelors and old maids. Stranger yet, was the fact that they all seemed friendly and cooperative. One would think that some of them would have married, just to keep each other's humor up. The first order of business was to get gas for the bus. At the gas station, we were graciously accommodated by the striking attendant, CYNTHIA BURT. She was most helpful, but since we needed to send to another town for gas, we decided to accept Mayor LONNIE HAWBAKER's invitation to tour the town. As we start on our tour, we approach a man standing in the middle of an intersection. As we take a closer look we see it is the torn constable, LUKE GRUBER. He is trying to direct traffic and avoid being run over by the town drunk, RON PHILIPS. Ron seems to be on his way to his car wash. We decided to ask Luke why he chose to become the constable in Calamity Corners . He answered that during his high school days he gained valuable experience that made him more qualified than anyone else. This is the reason he decided to follow in the footsteps of his idol, Henry . While talking to Luke we see a car load of boys drive by. It is taxi-driver, JOHN COPELAND hauling them to the local hang-out, Ceretti's Spaghetti House . On most afternoons you'll find the kids in town at Ceretti's gulping down the great food made by the fabulous chef, LARRY CERETTI. Larry's place is further enhanced by the popular entertainment of RCN BRITTAIN's Singing Trumpet . He was asked to replace Al Hirt but feeling he would ruin the old gentleman's famous legend, he declined the offer. This fabulous drawing attraction almost ran SHARON KELLER'S Restaurant out of business. After enjoying a choice meal at Larry's, we travelled on down main street, where who should we see but Fabulous Farmer, DOUG FORRET. We stop to pass the time of day and find Doug has been elected President of the local CO-OP. We asked him his feelings on his new appointment, and he replied, With my love of farming, who else is better qualified for the job? Since Doug was quite busy, we moved on. Much to our surprise, before us stood, our favorite mustached Hippie turned priest. The Navy is still looking for RAY KELLY to answer charges of drunken masses, earplugged confessions, and the new charge of going AWOL. Don't worry Ray, we'll never tell, take all the time you need to recuperate. While speaking with Ray, we inquired about other members of his class. He informs us that LA RUE has really made it big as the new Olive Oyl, however, at present she is in the hospital recuperating. Why?? BONNIE's gym proved too much for her when she tangled her lovely legs in the jungle gym and broke than both. We are assured, though, that she is receiving the best care possible from that famous and well experienced nurse, KATHY STEHR. Glancing down the street we view the seeks supply of beef being prodded up the street by AMBER ALFORD on her favorite Mustang. Up in the sky, it's a bird, it's a plane, no...it's MARS returning to her beloved home at the school after far off modeling assignments in Des Moines or Adel. After all with the new space age craze who but Mars could handle the job. Trailing her we see her dash into the school. We find she is late for a demonstration in MARILYN ANDEBURG's Home Economic Class. Many of the former students enjoyed their school days so much they decide to make a career of it. We decide to wander through and see how they were doing. As we view the library we find librarian, CRIS RENDER helping LINDA JUDKINS with some research. Linda has found her college social work didn't quite prepare her for the problems you meet in Calamity Corners. She wonders if Mr. Kyer found the same trouble at dear ole' WaukeeUJ As our time was about depleted we decided that we should take a visit to the office. In the outer office we find superintendent SUE LLEWELLYN'S privat secretary RITA SCHMIDT. We asked if we could see Super Sue. Rita tells us Janitor JOHN WRIGHT is still cleaning her office. Honestly, I can't figure out why he's still on the payroll. It takes at least two hours to clean the office. We can't figure out why Sue doesn't just give up and marry him so she can enjoy his charm more than the two stolen hours of a morning. We think Rita better desert the green eyed look before a triangle developes or Sue better hurry up and decide to give up her successful career and take a long trip—down the aisle. Our serious ponderings were interrupted by a loud call from the gym. We were startled to see we were the only ones more than mildly courious at the outcry. Seams the others are pretty used to it now. By golly, it's Coach BUECHLER, bellowing at the guys to keep their socks up and shirts in. She learned this from her favorite high school coach, Mr. Reagan. According to this years record, she's acquired the fond title of Calamity Carol. Actually, 0-31 isn't a bad season. It shows lots of spirit really, would you have played that 31st game???? Over the intercom comes the message that the gas for the bus has arrived. Sadly, but a bit relieved, we depart from Calamity Comers.
