The story goes that while the Class of 66 was touring the mountains during Skip Week, their bus broke down in the middle of the desert near the haunted Ghost Town of Dry Gulch. The class decided to take up permanent residence and name the town Meyer's Gulch in honor of Mr. Meyer, their chaperone on the trip. Now, we, the Junior Class, after a long treacherous trip, have found the town at last. As we approach the town, we see a tall, dark, handsome figure running to meet us. At first glance, we think it is John Wayne, but as he gets closer we realize it is our beloved principal, Mr. Meyer. He offers to give us a personal tour of the town. We don't think we can make the trip on an empty stomach, so we stop at Roberta Wright's Wild and Woolly Weiner Wurst Wagon, which specializes in, as you guessed, Rosenberger Hamburgers, developed by the famous chef, John Rosenberger. They are served to us by Nancy Peterson, who gained waitress experience during her high school days. As we step outside, we are shocked to see Chris Lewis, being led up to the hangman's noose. She has been convicted of showing her shapely legs in public. The judge, Mike Aldrich, will' not permit such vulgarity in Meyer's Gulch. We see Joe Render, the hangman, nearing the platform with a ladder in his hand. He's the shortest hangman in the Wild West and must use his ladder to reach the rope. But wait!! From behind we hear a sudden pitter-patter of horses' hooves. As we turn, in the cloud of dust, we see Mike Baker sitting gallantly upon his horse. Before we know it, he has shot a bullet through the rope and rescued Chris from the noose. He never could stand to see a lady sufrer. As Mike and Chris ride off into the distance, we hear Mike faintly yelling, Hi-ho, Copper, away! The crowd has now gathered around the best athlete in Meyer's Gulch, Bill Haynes, as he competes in a horseshoe tournament. Horseshoes has become the number one sport in the West. No wonder, when there are such pretty cheerleaders around as Jane Haberman to cheer the players on. Sherry Copeland has just returned from a long trip to the ocean with a load of seashells. Swingin' Silly Sherry sells seashells down by the dry goods store owned by Shirley Bennett. As yet, she cannot afford any manikins, so we see Linda Henderson in the window modeling Shirley's latest creation. Shirley sewed up the outfit herself on her new Springer Sewing Machine, invented by none other than Kim Springer. As we pass the blacksmith shop owned by Bill Kelly, Beverly Burger, the stagecoach driver, pulls in to have her axle repaired. Bill had better do a good job, so Bev can get the school kids to school on time. We are confronted by Pete Rahlson, the newspaper editor, who asks us for an interview. He has to get the article to his assistant. Cissy Johnson, so whe will have plenty of time to prepare it. Last time she got the type in backwards, and as a result there was no evening paper. We pass by the local barber shop where Ike Dowell is giving Tom Leonard the famous rancher, a haircut. Tom really likes Ike's shop because he uses those soft, luxurious Dowell Towels. Tom tells us his dairy business has really picked up since he hired Connie Anderson from Anderson-Erickson Dairy Company to work in his dairy. We hear a loud scream and run to the Office of Dr. Thomas L. Tovrea. He is putting a cast on Larry Chester Philips' leg. Dr. Tovrea keeps running out of plaster, because Larry's leg is so long. His nurse, Toni Ridgway, is no help, because she is continually getting the instruments mixed up and getting in the way. We notice we are being of no help, so we move on to the city jail, where Kenny Trammel, our alert deputy, is keeping a close watch on the fearless criminal, Dennis Petty, who has been accused of petty larceny. Kenny seems to be having trouble watching Dennis because his lovely redheaded wife, the former Linda Ogden, is chasing their twin sons, Pete and Repeat, up and down the street. We pass by the beauty shop where Brenda Delazzer, the beautician, is fixing Karen Tollari's hair. She's having quite a time because Karen has the longest hair in the west. There seem to be several members of the Senior Class whom we have not yet found. Where could they be? Ah, but alas! We hear the joyful sound of music rising up in the streets. Our ears lead us to Linda Lewellin's Liquor Lounge, better known as the town Saloon. We always knew Linda would be a great success. We trace the music to a piano, where Peg Smith is playing her famous Western version of Chopsticks. Her years of practice on the piano have certainly paid off. In the corner we notice the notorious gambler, Marty Smith, lazily playing a game of Old Maid with Linda Case. Linda needn't worry, though, because so far Marty has lost every single game. It is now necessary for Marty to break up the game and order a drink. (Milk on the rocks, of course.) During high school milk was his favorite bevarage. Ed McKinney, the bartender, rushes over and pours the shot heard around the world. What is that screamin noise? Call the marshall! But wait! It is the marshall, Jake Gruber chasing the most popular barfly, Carol Allen, down the stairs. Jake wonihis high position because he was the fastest gun and fastest runner in the West. Mr. Meyer tells us it is a common sight to see Jake chasing Carol around. We suppose so, looking back on our high school days. We invite the Class of 66 to return to Waukee with us, but they wish to remain behind in Meyer's Gulch. As the sun sinks slowly in the West, we bid farewell to the Seniors and take home with us the memories of an exciting day spend in Meyer's Gulch. Senior Class Will As we the Class of 66 turn in our resignation and quietly dismiss ourselves from this institution into another world-that unknown world of freedom, democracy, and equal opportunities, we leave to the Class of 67 a few of our cherished belongings With utmost care and thought we have unanimously agreed to leave with you our administration, teachers, school books, and hot lunches. The little knowledge we have learned and the vast amount of memorable experiences will be cherished forever by our graduating class. To each and everyone of you, the Class of 66 wills one of his most valued and treasured possesions. Mike Aldrich wills his Baraccuda to Deanne Allen. We hope you will have better luck with it than Mike did. Carol Allen wills her ability to get along with the boys to Saundra Cook and Beth Copeland, as long as you handle all your problems as well as Carol did. Connie Anderson wills her plans for the future to Nancy Hermann and Debbie Brickert, just as long as they are as successful as we are sure Connie will be. Mike Baker wills his polka-dotted shirt to Sandy Lewellyn. We know you will treasure it forever. Shirley Bennett wills her wonderful personality to Brenda Clarkson, providing Brenda puts it to good use like Shirley did. Beverly Burger wills her bus driving ability to Jane Swallow and Betty Biersma, providing they either get a smaller sign or a larger car. Linda Case wills her white go'go boots to Mary Moran and Laura Husted, so you two can walk all over the boys.
