The first third was devoted to simple machines and mechanical devices. The second, and perhaps most interesting, was electricity. Electroplating and other electronic devices and principles were studied with much enthusiasm and interest. Heat, light, and sound rounded out a year of interesting and intriguing study. You just can't balance out, Fred. I don’t care what you say; that's where I want it I GUIDANCE Guidance work runs the gamut of human experiences from explaining to a seventh grader why class room misbehavior is not acceptable to convincing a high school senior that all is not lost as a result of a broken romance. Specifically, my guidance begins with the nine-week guidance of seventh graders, whose purpose is to explore the reasons for attending school, class room behavior, teen-age problems, and a brief look at some of the occupations. Now, everybody listen Did you find what you were looking for? BIOLOGY Biology was divided into two main categories, the study of plant life and the study of animal life. We began with the study of the one-cell-ed animals and gradually worked our way up to humans. At the beginning of the second semester, we started to disect cats. The last nine weeks will be devoted to botany or the study of plants. GENERAL SCIENCE We began the year with a complete study of the atom. Using the information learned in the study of atoms we proceeded to work a few basic chemistry problems. Next, we went into a study on the universe. We later went into the study of simple and complex machines which included a complete study of the gasoline engine. During this study, the boys discovered they didn't know as much as they thought they did while the girls discovered they were plain dumb as far as gasoline engines go. The study of the camera was especially interesting because we got to develop and print some pictures. Two other major things studied were electricity and light. MEMBERS Linda Rees Ben Herr Keith Booth Peggy Kuehl Ike Dowell Bruce Petty Senior Junior Sophomore Freshman Eighth Seventh Business Education We would like you to meet Mrs. Rolloff who substituted for Mrs. Morgan for approximately four months. She did a fine job as a substitute and we enjoyed having her for a teacher. Business Math- Scott, Mike, and Ronnie Shorthand I - Deanna, Linda, Carolyn, and Nancy Senior Class Prophecy It is the year 2002 and we have decided to visit the dear old Waukee Community School. We are not surprised to find that the class of 62 is running the school. That’s what they always used to want to do anyway. as we walk in the door, we find JOYCE BOONE, one of our faithful janitors mopping up the floor. She looks so chic with her French-cut coveralls (which don't cover all.) Next we walk into the office of DICK APPLEGATE, Superintendent of schools, and find him chasing the secretary, LINDA REES, around the desk. Dick is just grabbing her as we walk in but he sees us and lets go. Better luck next time, Mr. Applegate! Our old superintendent of Waukee days was happily at work loading buses. We all remember his mania for having everyone ride a bus from good old Waukee days. We ask Dick to take us on a tour of the school. Well, shall we start at the bottom, says Dick. So, we walk into the Kindergarten room, where JAMES THOMPSON, their teacher, is sweating. Those kids have him stumped again. We hear a racket in the hall and run out and find the noise is coming from the band room. We walk in and TONY YORK, the director, turns around and yells, Cut it, and Shut up! He starts to throw the baton at us, so we run out. On our way to the Home Ec. room we pass the Biology room where the students are clustered around an object on the floor. A closer inspection reveals this object to be JUDIE McCARVILLE, Biology teacher, who has fainted because one of the students has held up a dead mouse. We notice smoke pouring out of the Home Ec. room and MIKE FORRET, the Home Ec. teacher, comes out with a ruffled apron on and says in a shrill voice, Oh dear, oh dear! I've burnt the pie again. He breaks down crying. Now, we can't stand to see a teacher cry, so we leave CRIS SMITH, the school's great cook, to comfort him. We know that Mike and Cris will someday make someone good wives. On entering the lunch room, we hear strange music and someone yelling 1-2-i waddle, kick. On the floor are the great J.J. Jazz Jivers doing the new dance craze, The Waddle. They are JERRY SKEERS and JANET CHAMBERS. They teach dancing that goes as far back as the historic twist. Boy, you ought to see Jerry waddle it. We go up the escalator to the second floor, to find the French teacher, GUIOME PARKER, making his own pronunciation of the French language. His greeting of BONJOWER! reminds us of the good old days when he used to drive Mrs. Millen crazy. Then we hear a loud rumble echoing through the hall. It is a mighty voice saying a 5 hour detention for you! And you see a tall formidable figure stalking out of the study hall. You guessed who it is---our principal--JOHN BIERSMA, better known as, BIG BAD JOHN. We go into the study hall to see who he was yelling at. We find the Librarian crouching in the corner. It is FRED SMITH, who got in trouble for filing dirty books in the kindergarten library. Then we see the other janitor coming out of the boy's rest room with a broom in her hand. It is MaRLYS TIBBEN. We asked her if she thought it was a rather peculiar job, and she answered that when she signed up, she hadn't realized what she was getting into. We go to the gym next where we find the boy's P.T. class doing calisthenics. They are doing an excellent job, because WANDA STIFEL is the great coach. They say she's the greatest coach since Neville. Continued Latin French French and Latin are the two foreign language classes. They are elective courses for the junior high and high school. Mr. Dan Neville is now chief taster for one of the leading gourmet establishments in Chicago. Due to a long habit still maintained, Dan now weighs a mere 410 pounds. Then we hear a splash and look into the swimming pool. DICK GILES, the girls swimming instructor, is on the bottom of the'pool with a brick tied around his foot. Dick really likes those yellow polka dot bikinis. In fact, he likes them too well, that’s why they threw him in. We step outside the building and notice a tow truck coming down the road. It’s pulling a 2002 bashed in convertible. DENNY FELT, the Driver’s Training instructor, is riding on the hood. We hear that the next car he gets will be an ancient 1962. He’s been smashing up too many new cars. On the way to the Ag. shop, we meet RONNIE ALDRICH,our Maintenance man, headed for the Cloud Room with a cup of coffee in one, and a cigarette in the other. We notice that his quarters in the bus barn have been cleaned out and there is a heap of cigarette butts, beer cans, and paper back books out in back of the building. Supt. Applegate has quite a time keeping Ronnie from getting too wild. As we near the Ag. shop, we can hear sounds of a scuffle inside. Oh, oh the ag. boys are chasing their teacher JUDY CORBETT around the tables again. You'll never catch her boys, she was once a great track star. As we leave the school for the last time, we hear the terrified screams of Linda Rees. It sounds like Supt. Applegate caught her at last. When we look in the window, we see the entire faculty having a party. Everyone’s doing the dance craze, the Waddle, except James Thompson and Joyce Boone. They’re squares so they do the ancient Twist. So, that’s the way we leave things at Waukee High, it sounds pretty bad, but do we care? FORGET IT’!! THE END! What are you hiding from? Where’s your grass skirt, Marlys? The night's still young. Dennis I Junior-Senior Banquet $ Girl's Sextet - with seven? Guess how we got there? Is it good, Dennis? Is it interesting. Kike?
