The Yearbook staff, September 20, I960 attended at Ames, Iowa, the workshop given by our publishers, the Inter-Collegiate Press, Kansas City, Mo. The lectures were interesting, helpful, and inspirational in giving us new ideas, as well as ways to cooperate with our publishers to get a better yearbook. The purpose of the test3 are to give both the students and teachers a better picture of the students' educational development. These tests measure fundamental abilities which have been continuously developed in the student since they first began to learn. This chart was used by . r. Special Education Consultant and ( School Psychologist ✓ Dallas County 90 Mr. Blesz has numerous responsibilities: (1) Provides consultative service to the schools in planning for and carrying out programs for handicapped children, (2) Helps to identify those children who are in need of special education services by giving individual psychological examinations, (3) Interprets the findings of these examinations and makes recommendations to parents and school personnel, (4) Assists the Speech Therapist in the hearing testing program. The field of Special Education is concerned with (a) The child who would profit more by a different program than that obtained in the regular classroom, (b) a program in addition to that obtained in the regular classroom, (cj a two-way school-to-home phone hook-up for a child w! o is physically handicapped and cannot attend school for some time, (d) placement is a special class for a mentally retarded child, (e) providing home tutoring for a severly handicapped cerebral palsied child, (f) counseling with an emotionally handicapped youngster and his parents. Mr. Blesz provides services to all the public schools in Dallas County and says that his work provides a very rewarding experience. Mr. Rqss G. Cole, Speech and Hearing Therapist The Dallas County Board of Education is providing Special Education for children who have problems with voice, articulation, or rhythm in speech and or a hearing loss. The case load is provided from the results of the speech and hearing surveys and from teachers referrals.
