F. A. nSweetheart.' Again, O 0 h O O O I Well, we finally made it We came back to school in September of 195L as Seniors This year we moved up to room 9 and Mrs Lopez was still our home room teacher We had to start this year out w1th a play, nTake Your Mediclne H whlch brought better results than last year's One of the more intelligent membezs or our class, Dale Brumagin, left us to continue h1s studies at North East Our class dwindled down to only 28, and we hoped that, at least they would stick it out th18 last year As in the past years, there were several basketball players Ronnie Hopson, Paul Vogel, Ed Duda, Paul Smlth, Duane Fuller and cheerleaders Pat boasted two prlze winners, also Charlotte Kent won the nApple Dessertn Contest, and Glenda Yost won the nCherry Pien Contest for the school Charlotte went to Mlllcreek High School and won for Erie County, and afterwards, she went to York, Pennsylvania to compete for the state but came 1n fifteenth place Glenda won second place in the Er1e County Contest Towards the end of the f1rst semester we looked forward to the Banquet and Prom that the JUH1OPS would give for us, and last, but not least, our tr1p to Washlngton Most of all we looked forward to that day of all days in May when we would walk across the stage and recelve the diploma that meant our school days were over As a senlor everyone is glad to recelve that dlploma, and we are no exceptlon But when next fall comes, we w1ll all w1sh that we could come back to Wattsburg High and JOIN all of you for another year of good tlmes, as we have enjoyed the past years with you . . , . 9 Locke, Jeannette Ester, and Barbara Kent ----- from our class. O Patrlck Cooney KPeeheeD leaves h1s height to David Thornton Edmund Uuda leaves nothlng He lS taking everything with hlm Richard Stevenson leaves h1s P O D class participation to Ronald Reynolds Duane Puller leaves h1s good times at play practlce to the JUDIOFS Jeannette Ester and Paul Smith are leavlng together Barbara Fannin leaves her ab1l1ty to look over hlgh fences to Gary Stutzman Barbara Kent leaves her ablllty to type fast to all of the slow typlsts Narcy Erumagin leaves her Cexcusedj admission slips to whoever can get away wlth lt Glenda Yost leaves her good tlmes ln Home Ec class to Beverly Taylor Gordor Johnson leaves for the servlce of his country ln wltness thereof we do set our seal and afflx our name to this document, thls day of June 2, 1955 Slgned THE SnNTOd CLASS OF 1955 Robert Tanner leaves his curly hair to Tony Jagta. amor Glass Prophecy At the present tlme jobs are pretty scarce, although I managed to land one the other day I'm a salesman It's up to me to get r1d of a truck load of button hooks and shoe horns, anythlng to make a fast buck The first day came along fcr me to get out and sell I live ln the outsk1rts of Erie ln a big town called Wattsburg It should be easy for me to sell my goods in that town I put the button hooks and shoe horns 1n a suitcase I had and set out to sell F1rst, I ran 1nto a street cleaner who looked like a pretty good proposltlon He told me he was Edward Waite I was surprised to see hlm He sald he didn' like his job I tried to sell h1m some worthwhile shoe horns, but he said he wasn't getting paid enough to even buy a pair of shoes He had a w1fe and four very lovely children to keep up w1th I sald good by and was on my way I no more than left Mr Walte when I saw a young man who looked very famlliar to me I walked up to h1m and gave h1m my name F was Paul Smlth, one of my past classmates of Wattsburg High School He told me he was running a show up ln Jamestown, New York w1th a buddy of h1s, Edmund Duda Edmund was st1ll slngle, but Paul said was happlly married to Jeannette Ester, a Wnormaln housew1fe- HLUCKY could use them I gave h1m a couple of button hooks free to glve to h1s grandmother She could use them ISay, if th1s keeps up I might get rich, but I still have an enormous amount of these thlngs left D After that, I Just kept walklng through town I walked into the town park and there I saw her, a lady lylng on a park bench, asleep A policeman was there trylng to wake her up, but he couldn't I went over and gave my assistance Together we managed to wake her up She looked like a person who mlght help me out financlally Wher she gave me her name, it surprised me It was Shirley Drohn She said she lay there last night to rest after a hard day of shopplng and fell asleep We talked of old tlmes, and later, I managed to sell her some shoe horns She said she would never use them Kwho knows She mlght D She said it was only to help me out But you can never tell when the style is coming back Well, by this tlme, I was ready for breakfast, so I went up to the NGarbage Rackn for a little snack I suppose you all know that Marilyn McMillan owns this little set up I guess she must be do1ng all right because she has a couple of Whash slinger deluxesn working for her They are Charlotte Kent and Grace Fenno I ate a very good breakfast, but when I was flnished, I had a l1ttle trouble I found I had no money I managed to exchange some of my articles for the bill Marilyn Sald she never heard of button hooks, so I showed her how they were used, and only then d1d she recall I . ' . ' t Q . . - o . he . 0 . . he FELLOWU. He bought four shoe horns from me to be nice. He said he them. She bought a couple more--one for each of her helpers. She wrote out a check for fifty cents Cwhich I d1dn't takel and I was on my way out In walking out, I bumped 1nto a fellow, thereby, knocking h1m on the floor, and I could not place him just then He told me his name was Duane Fuller He was an average farmer of the area who was gettlng r1ch ln a hurry. I was happy to meet hlngand he felt the same about me de went lnto the store, and he treated me to another blte to eat By th1s t1me I was gettlng quite full We talked, then I left to be on my way again I stopped at a f1ll1ng station, and found out that Richard Stevenson was the owner Robert Tanner was his helper They were do1ng very well in that buslness Richard was married to a very pretty g1rl and had a couple of husky young boys They looked exactly l1ke h1m hell, as you mlght know I did not sell very much merchandlse that day But I Just kept plugglng away Yet, there was somethlng wrong and after glvlrg a llttle thought to the s1tuat1on, I decided I needed a sign to advertise my shoe horns and button hooks I stopped 1n to see a pa1nter on Maln Street Patr1c1a Locke was the palnter there Her husband was the owner CYes, she 15 married I expl lned to her my problem, and she sa1d she could help me out She palnted me a blg slgn to hang on my back We talked for a while, and I thought as long as I was there, I could sell her some of my merchandlse She just wouldn't buy any shoe horns or button hooks, though I flnally made a bargaln w1th her She took a dozen of each of my goods for the slgn Boy, what a cheat! Ha! Ha' Ha' And that sign was really heavy' I started marching up and down Main Street, and that's when bUS1n6SS started to plck up I looked down the street, and guess whom I saw one of my old classmates I knew hlm very well was Marvln then switched over to dlgglhg holes for people, 6' x 6' x 6' Now he has advanced from chief of all ndlggersn to morticlan He was Just slmply floatlng in money He volunteered to buy some of hutton hooks I then said good by and was on my way I walked up and down the street for awhlle dolrg no buslness whatsoever A young lady came up to me and asked how I had been She looked very fsm1l1ar and sald she was Dor1s Yost when I knew her, but now she lS Mrs Dorls Allen She 15 a busy housewlfe marrled to Leonard Allen She was surprised to see me selllng such sllly gadgets I d1dn't thlnk it was funny' She d1dn't want any of the pieces of Junk I then advertlsed my merchandlse at half pr1ce Bus FC 1 gett1ng worse for me Soon, two very n1ce 1ook1ng men cane up une street They were Paul Vogel and Ronald Duda They were each ln an Alr Force unlform They also had enough strlpes to glve each of them the tltle of'Ser,ednt They, I hoped, could use some shoe horns , . He started out digging post holes and - ' , fly' u ' I stopped them and gave them a sales talk They were just what they needed The shoes that Uncle Sam gave them were too small,1t seems I made a small amount of money fron those two men By th t t1WS lt was way past dlnner It was about 2 30 P M I decided to stop and get a blte to eat somewhere I declded to have my lunch at the place where I ate breakfast Whlle I was eatlng, a young man came 1n He certainly did look llke a hard worklng farmer to me It was Ronald Hopson He told me he was go1ng to be a C P A fCert1f1ed Publlc Accountantl, but he got drafted for a few years in the serv1ce,and after gettlng dlscharged, he went 1nto the potato farming buslness He sa1d there lS more money ln that 'or less work He makes a pretty good potato farmer hlmself His buslness was so big that he hlred a secretary and temporary bookkeeper Barbara Fannln was the g1rl He sa1d she was a pretty good worker for the work th t had to be done We talked more about old t1mes,and he told me that Lo1s Flaugh marrled some man from Union C1ty nar d B411 Conover She 15 happlly marr1ed and they have one lnttle glrl She worked for awh1le as a secretary 1n a department store untll she was TBFFIGQ Soon I flnlshed eatlng, and I left to try to do some more sell1ng It was very lnterestlng to meet all of these old classmates of nlne A llttle later I met nMissn Treva Estes She was a school teacher gust as she sald she was go1ng to be fBy the vmW5uW'button hooks and shoe horns are slowly H0102 down I ended up that day feellng llke a wreck I got a lot o leep that Plght, and the next day I was up and ready to try agqln The sign I had made was boost1ng up the sales sllghtly I went to a dlfferent part of town thas t1me to try my luck I sold 3 few button hooks to an old Larmer, Gordon Johnson who had a w1fe that used button hooks regularly Among those people I met the next mornlng were Barbara Kent Glenda Yost and Ila Graham They were all former classmates of mlne Barbara Kent She worked 1n the she was some kind base Boy' What marrled, however, after our graduation, Ila marrled was a member of the armed forces She was a 'v ve' 0fflCe at the base where she was stationed I guess bookkeeper for the Captaln at the Yost was marrled Before she got small grocery store A year or two Carl Fenno of Wattsburg I do not of secretary or a llfel Glenda she wo ked in a recall whether thev had any chlldren or not Just before lunch, I met duth K1r1k She was struttlng down the street as proud as a peacock She spotted ne a block away and when she reached me, we talked of old t1mes She was a court stenographer It was a very good Job, too, wlth good pay, and she loved lt I can't understand how everyone 1S dolng so well, and look at me selllng chean two-bit artlcles well, I had to eat So, after a l1ttle rest I began walklng agaln Q c . 9 O F . u 1 .
