FRESHMEN FROLICS An elegant tea given to the freshmen by the Watts Hospital A bake sale given by the freshman class to make money for Auxiliary. WHITE CAP. We were a bunch of scared freshmen when we walked through those Wyche House doors. Some senior had draped us with a multicolored bib and had set a gigantic dunce cap on our heads. There were unfamiliar faces everywhere... and then our big sister walked up. Thank heaven for her! Many of us would have quit the first week had she not led us through it and THURSDAY NIGHT! The freshmen had many events to enlighten their year as well as that first week. Among them included teas, bake sales, car washes, going home, and wonderful closed study! SOS Be One of our ‘’Good Nights” in closed study!! Going home on weekends to see our familites.

It may be real, live people with whom we made our new homes with. These peo- ple, who became our friends, were there to share our laughter, our crying, our fun, our moods. We learned to work together after many trials... but we did it. We learned to study together after many trials... but we did it. There was upset; there was need for mature minds... and there was the feeling of helplessness. There were mistakes; there was crying. But the great result of it all was: We had a good start on building those mature minds. People or Elephants? We need them Both. Or it may have been our long- time buddies including our piggy bank, our plastic heart, or even our yellow stuffed elephant, which served as our arm to lean on. We needed the real, live people, but we could not have made it without those hours we spent with our “quiet, understanding buddies.” Ask anybody who wrote to their boyfriend or cried from depression. We needed time by ourselves, even if it was to shout for some joy which was found in our day.
