CEU AND SHE’S OUR OWN By PeEcGy DAMERON If only my pen could write The things I feel within, This verse would reach out of sight, For her greatness knows no end. Then the feeling Herstudents know so well, Could be written down in verse; For She’s everything Miss Nightingale Ever hoped for in a nurse. I remember that first day on the ward— That feeling of being alone, Then I heard this Someone say, ‘Don’t worry, you'll soon catch on.”’ Her kind words when I’m in distress Give me determination anew, To aim for her height in Nobleness In everything I do. For when the going seems a little tough, And I have a desire to run away; Just thinking of Her is enough To make me know I’ve got to stay. For She’s the emblem of purity to me, ‘Towering so far above; She’s everything I hope to be— A shining light of love. On graduation when everyone’s gay And the air is filled with fun; I hope that She, to Herself, may say ‘Another job well done.” For she has given all She has to give, And Ill never forget the spirit Of the One who has shown me how to live In a promise to service—and be true to it. And if Miss Nightingale could come today And take one from all the rest I’m sure our own Miss Bailey Would be the One she’d bless.
