Watsonville's high school students are proud. They are proud of the part those their schoolmates of a few semesters past . . . a few years past . . . have played and are playing in this great struggle of mankind to rid the world of a foul disease. With others of our own great country and of our brave allies, our boys have bled and died in battle. We who have remained here are not unmindful of them. We are so proud that words are only futile. And we pledge ourselves again to do our little tasks with the same de- votion that they have shown in doing their great ones. -v-7 .4 , IW' DEIJIIIZ-KTIU I .P ji it 4 3 X v Xl Mrs. Myrna M. To save the life of one at the front, no sacrifice is too great, no service too difficult. 2. We have faith in the leaders of the United Nations Conference and believe that with God's help they will succeed in writ- ing a document which will make World peace possible. 3. We are certain lapan will be beaten to her knees. We trust she will find grace to repent her dupiicity and her cruelty, and we hope to hear her beg mercy of long suffering China as Well as of America and Britain. Mass slaughter in militant Germany has convicted every Nazi leader of murder in high degree and fastened upon their country international military supervision to last until German Nationals can be admitted to the world community of civilized peoples. We pray that the blood, sweat, and tears of war may fruit in a righteous peace. We envision that peace as one in which Worth is marked, not by accumulations of pride, privilege, or wealth but by man's service to men and the Nation's services to our global community. ln the democracy of America, what you think and what l think, what you do and what I do, determine what our nation thinks and does. President of the Board: loseph E. Knight. Not prcssnt, M. S. Hutchings. ln a year of victory and of dedication to renewed effort, the spirit of harmony and cooperation which existed at the too of the high school educational structure was reflected throughout the administration, the faculty, and the student body. Charged with responsibility of managing school affairs, the Board of Trustees rendered to the community notable service. Again the affairs of education were handled with the Judgment and efficiency which has distinguished our board for many years. - f . . uw . VJ YV.. .',,.,,,, A 1 . , 1,7 4 . 4 ' ' Q1 . This group makes up one of the largest service organizations in the school, and is composed of representatives from each advisory. ln their hands is placed the responsibility for collecting the stamp and bond money from fellow advisees, the purchase of these bonds and stamps, and the de- livery of the purchases to their owners. Tuesday of each week of the school year is set aside for this purpose, the sales being conducted during advisory period. School sales have been uniformly successful, and much of the credit for their success belongs to the stamp and bond chairmen. For more than two years the high school has flown the United States Treasury flag, indicative of monthly participation in sales of 9905 or more of the students. At times the participation has run as high as 993, and each month since the beginning the percentage has been well above 902. Miss Bonham and Miss Pokel, faculty supervisers, have worked untiringly, and lfoir efforts have been highly successful. 46 Qs I r-.. X .. , :-x . . -I . .,' I fa .ll J -k it ,,,, ., fx. Points cwarded tor intramural sports led to various block letters and permitted the boys to continue some torm oi athletic competition during the period oi the war emer- gency. This year, with CCAL competition resumed in basketball, track, baseball, and tennis, competition more nearly resembling that of other years was begun. Though the lack ot interschool competition showed itselt in competition that was sometimes mediocre, enthusiasm was evident, huge crowds witnessed some ot the sports, and a return to normal was indicated tor next year. President ot the Block W this year was Don Stewart. Douglas Severin was vice- president and Ray Marnach, secretary. Faculty adviser was Coach Geiser. Block W members participated in money-raising activities which paid for their Manzanita spread and put money into the athletic protective fund. 86 ' m I K . 4 .Ewa fag' 3,41 A i .
