Frankly, back in fhose days when we grimly and even desperafely baffled for film, and when problem affer problem piled up before us wifh appar- enfly no way ouf, if seemed af 'limes as if fhis happy day mighf never be. Lef no one who now holds a I943 Manzanifa in his hands ever doubf fhaf fhere are such fhings as miracles! The I943 Manzanifa had numerous difficulfies fo overcome. Firsf of all, we sfarfed wifh fhe ugly facf of having been insolvenf in I942. Then, of even more imporfance, we had no professional phofographer fo help us. Every picfure was' an amafeur's efforf, fhough we-Manley Jansen, Lewis Leffunich, and I-all feel like professionals now. Our picfures were faken, developed lwifh 'l'he excepfion of a very fewl and prinfed by us. Lef fhem nof be judged foo harshly. Everyone on fhe sfaff fhis year had a iob fo do. The facl' 'lhaf you have a book and fhaf fhe bills are paid indicafes fhal' he did if. Firsf of all lef me express my safisfacfion over fhe handling of fhe year- book finances. Jim Mehl, faking over fhe business manager's fask, carried on an efficienl' and imaginafive campaign fhaf sold fhe highesf percenfage of annuals fo fhe sfudenf body 'lhaf has been sold in recenl' years. Sponors, clubs, and adverfisemenfs, along wifh fhe subscripfions, pu'l' our book on a sound financial foofing. Phyllis Flodberg, my assisfanf edifor, Joan Solari, and my phofographers, Manley Jansen and Lewis Leffunich, rendered me help fhal' was invaluable. Annamae Thwaifs, Janef Heick, Lois Lighf, Norma Jean Dye, and Madge Simpson were always willing helpers. Sfeve Pisfa's arf work deserves special lfhanks, and special fhanks also go fo Bob Marsh for help during a hecfic week of picfure developing. The encouragemenl' of our adviser, Mr. Hamilfon, fook me fhrough many a dark day. -Lawrence Jacobson.
