FOREWORD SCHOOL DAYS come and school days go, but the memory of them will re- main. Wherever We may be, the recol- lection of our youthful days we shall cherish in our hearts. The gayety, the work, the activities, the play, will come back again and again to give us pleasure. It is the hope of the staff that this year's Manzanita will serve to remind the reader of many a pleasant occasion connected with Watsonville High. In complying with the youthful spirit of the school, for which every stu- dent is responsible, the 1931 Manzanita Staff has chosen for the theme-IDEAL YOUTH. -THE EDITOR.

i..li. I 'age Six MANZANITA YOUTH Lithe of limb. on woodland path youths race, And hand in hand or each alone they trace The foam flecked line of waves upon the beach. Cn roadway far and air lane high they reach In minutes spent at murmuring motors' speed The goal of weary yesterdays. Nor heed They sorrow borne by flowers when in their haste They gather passing joy, nor count they waste Of mighty strength by Earth and Moon and Sun Long spent to wake the winds and cause the tides to That bathe the feet of loiterers on the strand , Nor reckon they the weary brain and hand And spirit brave that conquered space for man. And compassed hours within the briefest span. Maturity will bring them wisdom's sight: They then will reverence what is past and right. Now 'tis theirs to own the jeweled dew, And seek in lighted valleys beauty new, To bare their breasts to Natures lavish power. And scorn the ones who in her presence cower. Awake they dream and in each dream design Structures bright and rare, in Hlmy line. Tomorrow when as craftsmen they will lift Their arms in labor they will build a gift That they and God now plan and soon will give As heritage to those who next will live. WT. S.
