SOPI-IOMORES Then too we always have plenty of music since many of us are proteges of Mr. Carlyon in band and orchestra. There surely would be a hole in the band if the Sophs would take a notion to drop out. While many of the musical minded ones blow cornets, trumpets. and flutes. some try their best to sing. and think it would be fine to become famous prima donnas. Speaking of prima donnas we really have one. who is none other than Kitty Wasson. She proved so good in Glee Club that she simply had to be chosen for one of the leading parts in the operetta. Now we come to the bright side of the matter. About one-third of the Honor Society are Sophomores who positively shine in high scholarship. Some of these have belonged ever since they started High School and are well on their way to have a gold seal on their diplomas. At last after we have flown from one thing to another it is just about time for us to land: for in a short time we will be taking off in a new plane. The Sophomore, piloted by Sterling Cottrell. is flying sky high on wings of high scholarship. music, and athletics. We climb higher and higher as the year goes on and win many honors. With such a crew of outstanding athletes The Sophomore has found itself the victor both in the sack light and inter-class baseball. Of course there never were such basketball players as Barney Perovich. Ray Giacoma, Eddie Wing. and August Varni. The midget team, composed mainly of Sopho- mores. nearly won the championship again this year. And of course these boys play football. Such track stars as George Payton, a first class sprinter. and one of the best ones in school, and Sterling Cottrell, who places in the high jump. will, when they are seniors. break all records. Of course the boys aren't the only ones who bring in honors in athletics. The girls do a great deal too. To look at Mary Liles or Josephine Ottaviano play speedball you would think that they were practicing to become first class football players. Besides having two on the school tennis team there are quite a few feminine Babe Ruths and many who are all stars in basketball and volleyball. - l' V Page Twenty
