i TWO MAINSTAYS OF OUR TRACK TEAM- Ken Tucker Dale Decker Cn the Cinders On Thursday evening, May 24, Larry Harmon was named the most valuable member of this year's track team, Bob Scharlach was named most improved member, and Ron Emmert the most spirited member. At that time, Larry was also named captain-elect of the coming 1957 season. This honor was certainly due him because of his many spectacular performances. He broke the 440-yard dash record at the Urbana Open and the 440- and 220-yard dashes at the Wauseca League meet. He took third at the District in the 440- and 220-yard dashes. His best time for the year, in taking third at the state meet, was :49.5. At the District he ran the 220-yard dash in :22.3. Iohn Wood also broke records with the discus at the County and District. His best meet throw this season was 151' ll . He was also the only other qualifier for the state. Another record breaker, Dave Sanson, broke the high and low hurdles at the conference. Watseka's 880-yard relay team of Larry Harmon, Frank Schaumburg, Dick Cast and Bob Rhoades went undefeated for the season. Watseka took first in five of the seven track meets including County, Bradley, and Conference, plus a good showing at the Urbana Open, and District and State. All in all our track team, under the coaching of Paul james, was one of the most successful in years. 66
