Class Ofzcers Joe Dodson, treasurer, John Wood, sec- retary Sue Bartlett, president, and Larry Harmon, vice president. On the morning of August 31, 1953, the halls of WCI-IS were invaded by an army of ninety inquisitive and wondering freshmen. Miss Wat- kins was their first class sponsor. As their class ofiicers they chose Wayne Roberts, president, Margo Mase, vice-president, Julie Ash, secretary, and Kay Johnson, treasurer. They elected Mary Sheppard Davis, Bob Schar- lach, and Pat Boughton to represent their class on the Student Council. Kay O,Brien and Pat Boughton were chosen as cheerleaders for the coming season. John Wood was the only freshman who made the varsity football team that year. Eighteen boys joined the second team. At the homecoming game Kay Johnson was the freshman candidate for queen. The freshman class was represented by eight capable boys on the fresh-soph basketball squad. Their manager was Richard Gross. The GAA was well represented by forty fresh- man girls, FHA, twenty-two, FFA, six boys, and eighteen of the freshmen joined the Library Club. Thirty girls received positions in the Girls' Chorus and four boys entered the Boys' Chorus. Joan Hershberger accompanied the Girls Chorus. Sue Bartlett was the only freshman member of the Girls, Octave. Sixteen members of the band that year were freshmen. Of these sixteen, five participated in district contest on March 6, 1954. They were Kay Johnson, Nanita Patterson, Sue Bartlett, Linda Thorp, and Kay O'Brien. Three members of the freshman class, Joan Hershberger, Sue Bartlett, and Linda Thorp, were accompanists. Senior History Kay Johnson and Sue Bartlett were drum majorettes that year. In the fall of 1954, the class returned for their sophomore year with an increase of three mem- bers, giving them a total of ninety-three. Their new class sponsors were Miss Strauss and Mr. James. Kay O'Brien was chosen class president, Bob Scharlach, vice-president, John Wood, secretary, and Denny Fox, treasurer. To the student council they elected Pat Bough- ton, Kay Johnson, and Larry Harmon. Pat Boughton and Kay O'Brien were re-elected cheerleaders from the Sophomore class. Also Donna Herron, a newcomer to WCHS, was chosen to join the squad of cheerleaders. Four members of the class earned positions on the varsity football team for the 1954 season. They were John Wood, Mike O'Neal, Wayne Roberts, and Larry Harmon. Seven sophomores joined the fresh-soph team. For the homecoming game this year, the class chose Mary Sheppard Davis, Kay Johnson, and Pat Boughton to be their attendants to the queen. This year two boys, John Wood and Wayne Roberts, became members of the varsity basket- ball squad. Five players represented the sopho- more class on the second team. The track team made a profitable gain of nine sophomores this year. Wayne Roberts and Charles Norder and Bob Scharlach joined the baseball team. e Thirty-th1'ee girls from the class joined the CAA Club. Kay O'Brien was elected point taker.
