The Laurel High Tomado Baseball Team, coached by Chris Calcote and assisted by Gary Gordon, had one of their better seasons in 1978. The Tornadoes only lost six games, while winning nine. The Tomadoes tied for first in the north half of the District V Competition and also defeated The Central Big Eight Champ Title. The team finished fourth in the Overall Big Eight in Jackson. Tony Taylor kept a .377 batting average and lead the team in RBI's and home runs. Jay Reeves was the best pitcher of the year with a 5-0 record. Tony Taylor and Michael Triplett was chosen the team cap- tains of the year. 87
