Brookhaven- 13, Laurel-41 Laurel won the Homecoming in style with victory over the Brookhaven Panthers. In the first quarter, Tony Taylor ran from one out to make the score 6-0. In the second quarter, Todd Oliver blasted in the end zone for TD No. 2. Later, Timmy Cranford passed to Oliver for a 28 yard TD pass. On the beginning of the second half, Cranford passed to Micheal Triplett for a 12 yard TD pass. Running back Charlie Giroux bolted in from 8 yards out to up the score to 34-0. Brookhaven finally got on the board when quarter- back Richard Smith passed 28 yards to end Chester Chism for one TD and threw eight yards to Michael Thomas for the other TD. The Tornadoes got another score on a 10-yard run by Miguel Lewis. Picayune-O, Laurel-7 The Laurel Tornadoes raised their season record to two wins after defeating Picayune. In the opening minutes ofthe game, the defensive credit went to Joe Pruitt, g'Ace McCurdy, David Hinton, Lawrence Ducksworth, Victor Hudgies, and David Powell. Laure1,s first drive began on their own 45, after a 15-yard punt re- turn by Michael Triplett. Timmy Cranford passed to Todd Oliver for 4 yards and David Martin carried another six for the lst down. Mar- tin picked up 13 yards for another lst down. Later Laurel took the ball at the 39 on a pass intercepted by Brian Dennis. Laurel drove a total of 61 yards in seven plays for the game's only TD. Cranford passed 20 yards to Barrett for a lst down at the Picayune 40. Martin then carried twice for 7 and 18 yards and another lst down. Cranford passed to Michael Barrett for the TD. The Rams had gotten on the board early with a first quarter field goal of 38 yards. In the second quarter. Rams quarterback Harry Anderson threw a 49 yard pass to flanker Tyrone Williams to in- crease the score to 10-O. ln the second half, Anderson again threw to Williams, this time for a 27 yard touchdown pass. This made the score I7-0. As the game wore toward the first stages. Laurel got possession twice inside the Rams' 20 only to have fumbles, lose yardage. and kill its chances of catching up.
