Meridian-6, Laurel-3 The Laurel Tornadoes had defeated the Meridian Wildcats for five straight years. However, the Wildcats were deter- mined to be victorious. The ball changed hands several times during the first quarter due to fumbles. At the end of the first quarter the score was 0-0. On a second quarter play, Tony Taylor bobbled an ex- change with fullback Rocky Whitten and Meridian's Mark McCormick fell on it at the Tornado 15. Meridian quarter- back Butler handed off to tailback Don Mosely for the only TD of the game. In the third quarter Brian Dennis split the uprights from 30 yards out for a three pointer. The fourth quarter was marred with penalties as both teams tried in vain to mount scoring drives but costly fumbles killed their chances.
