Safety Council The Safety Council is an organization of students who are interested in promoting safety at school and at home. The members of the Safety Council are representatives from each homeroom. Junior Classical League Students taking any year of Latin are invited to partici- pate in the Latin Club. Members of this club strive for a better understanding of Latin and the Roman life. Mem- bers attend the state convention to compete in quizzes, and chariot races. Also, a Roman meal is served at the convention. Language Students Abroad The Language Students Aboard Organization aims to promote interest in the foreign languages and to foster a deeper understanding ofthe English language. Each year the club plans educational excursions aboard to acquaint students with foreign cultures. Recently, members have ex- perienced lifestyles in England, France, and Switzerland. , s +R 3, Jas? Y sxss 1977 Boys' and Girls' State The purpose of Boys' State is to familarize boys with the internal workings of govemment on a local, state, and federal level. Each year boys are selected by the American Legion on the basis of their leadership qualities to attend Hinds Junior College in Jackson. The week is spent in working in elected offices and athletics. The selections are made by the American Legion and the various civic clubs in Laurel. At the college the Students perform mock legislatures and elect officers to serve during the week's stay. l45
