Hattiesburg-7, Laurel-27 The Little Brown Jug will remain in Laurel one more year as a result of the Tornado-Blair Tigers game. Tony Taylor hit Dale Davis for a field length gain. Joe Westmoreland plowed in for the TD, but the PAT was blocked. Marvin McCurdy recovered a Tiger fumble which set up a Taylor keeper for 6 points. The two point conversion attempt was good. In the second quarter, Laurel took the ball on its 5 yd. line. Alvin Gore zipped 95 yards for another TD. Brian Dennis hit the PAT to make the halftime score 21-zip. The Tigers scored late in the third quarter to cut the Tor- nado lead to 21-7. The final Laurel score came on a one-half yard run by Westmoreland. The remainder of the game was played with second and third string players. The only score in the game came with the Tornadoes driving the entire length ofthe field. Alvin Gore and Joe Westmoreland got substantial ground gains while Tony Taylor passed to Bo Myrick during crucial 3rd down plays. The drive was completed when Taylor found Alvin Gore for the touchdown pass. Later, Gore got a 50 yd. rushing play only to have the drive bog down and die. Magee-12, Laurel-14 The Tornadoes met the Magee Trojans in the post-season Missis- sippi Bowl. Laurel received the opening kick, but was unable to move the ball. Tim Cranford's punt was blocked as Magee recovered the ball and raced 32 yards for a Trojan touchdown. Laurel scored later as Alvin Gore sloshed 12 yards for the TD. Brian Dennis attempted the PAT, but the snap was bobbled. Tony Taylor picked up the ball and raced for the two point conversion. The Trojans took the second half kickoff and moved deep into Tor- nado territoiy. The drive was completed with a Magee scoreg 12-8. With three minutes left in the third quarter. Tony Taylor hit Bo Myrick for a 42 yard pass. The extra point attempt failed. The fourth quarter ended with both teams trying to hold on to the ball despite the rain and freezing cold.
