Environmental Science Program The environmental science program has been under- way for two years as of 1976. Students involved in ESP meet every Monday evening during the school year. The purpose of this program is to allow students to observe nature first hand. A trip to Big Bend, Texas during spring holidays was one of the main highlights of the program. 191

ROTC The ROTC program at R.H. Watkins High School provides many opportunities for students to learn and practice leadership procedures and traits. Stu- dent cadets are given opportunity to belong to many aspects of the ROTC program through class activities, field experiencesfand battalion gather- ings. There are activities for both boys and girls in cadet staff and officer training, drill team com- petition, and color guard. This year the Watkins unit participated in its annual inspection and was deemed a HONOR unit in the US Army Third ROTC Region, junior Division.
