DECA The R.H. Watkins DECA Chapter was the top club in the state for the sixth straight year. They also finished sixth in national competition at Chicago. Gloria Butler and janet LaVigne entered in Chapter of the Year com- petition and finished first in the state qualifying them for national competition. Also winning at state and quali- fying for national were: joan Maslanka, job Interview and Department Store Merchandising, Susan jarvis and Patty Sanford, Retail jewelry lndustry, Connie jones, Specialty Store Merchandising, Sandy Kennedy, Merchandise ln- formation, and Beth Loper and Mary Windham, Variety Store Merchandising. F' mini -'van ln addition to receiving the invitation from the govern- ment of Mexico and scoring all superiors at the Missis- sippi High School Band Festival, the band received many individual honors. The Tornadoes were represented by six members to the Mississippi Lions All-State Band. Eigh- teen bandsmen scored superior in solo competition and the flute trio, saxaphone quartet, bass choir, and per- cussion ensemble all scored superior at the Mississippi Solo and Ensemble Festival. Seven bandsmen made the first band at the South Mississippi Band Clinic with Mike Vaughan and Dwight Gaddis earning first chair honors. Warren White and Dwight Gaddis both placed first chair at the Mississippi State Band Clinic.
