SENECA 73 Watkins Glen Central School Watkins Glen, New York EDITORS: Barbara Cullen John Callahan THEME EDITOR: Mary Ellen Taylor B USI NESS MA NA GER: Shari Marshall a time of remembering our innocence, and our joys, thinking how it was and how it could have been, speaking of how our lives have changed, and remembering those who have changed it. with that thought we open our book of remembering ” DED1CA TION 73 First you learn to hate him: -because you failed his first 3 tests (or 5 or 7 or 9) -because he makes you do those horrid outlines and worksheets -because he practically stuffs Bailey’s book down your throat —and then he marks your essays on the regents like you were taking French instead of history. And then you see: -it was YOUR fault you failed those first tests because history has been so easy ’til now -the worksheets and outlines DO have a great deal of importance —that Bailey wasn’t so bad after all (even tho’ it did weigh 10 lbs.) —that you had at least one teacher that made you think, question, and wonder a little. For these reasons, we the Class of 1973 dedicate the 1973 Senecan to, Mr. Chamberlain. ■ I am not a teacher: only a fellow-traveler of whom you asked the way. Many congratulations should go to the 1972 varsity football team who became co-champs of the IAC league, southern division. Also after many years we won our homecoming game and regained our possession of “the bucket” (which was rightfully ours!). Like their “big brothers” the j-v’s won the game against Odessa and received a “mini-bucket”. Under the terrific coaching staff of Coach Seither and Coach Kleinfelder, they should be a great addition when they reach varsity level. They round out your education, mixing social life with scholastic achievement, as long as you discipline yourself to keep the right balance of the two. Achievement is the most rewarding feeling____get- ting the paper out on time in good shape_____singing an entire concert in tune ... meeting deadlines .... having a successful dance ... winning ribbons at cheerleading camp... learning a complete majorettes’ routine with no serious problems... succeeding in raising money for an important cause .... the final production of “Guys and Dolls”. We, the students of WGHS, feel we have obtained the correct balance. STUDENT STANDARD Row 1—M. Ayers, B. Givin, V. Herrick, J. Wickham, P. McKee, P. Calla-nan, M. Claire. Row 2-W. Wickham, T. A yearbook staff must be willing to spend time laying out pictures, cropping, typing, meeting deadlines, trying to figure out how to spell everybody’s name right and a million other odds and ends. To our advisors, Mr. Cook and Mr. Tammaro, a special thanks for everything they put up with all year long, especially all our wacky ideas!
