It contains five sets of Ency- clopedias, many bound volumes of magazines such as the Readers' Digest, National Geographic and Holiday, many volumes of fiction to which new ones are added each year and much other reference material. The high school subscribes to 15 different monthly and weekly magazines and two daily newspapers which are placed in the library. The girls' Pep Club has a total membership of thirty. The purpose of the organization is to promote school loyalty and to support all athletic contests. This club forms an organized cheering section at all games. Uniforms for the Pep Club consist of black skirts and black sweaters with the Yellowjacket emblem. SEASON'S RECORD The 1955-'54 Yellowjacket basketball team started the season with only two starters back from last season, and four returning lettermen. After a poor start in which the team lost seven of 1t's first eight games, the Yellowjackets picked up steam and won eight out of the next eleven games. During that time, the Yellowjackets won five straight games. The team finished second in the Blue Valley League and fourth in Marshall County League play. In the Marshall County Tournament, the Yellowjacket first team finished fourth, while the second team finished second. The season's statistics before the District Tournament show that the Yellowjackets won nine and lost ten games. The 1955 Yellowjacket football team put season since 1948, as they won 5, lost 2, and The Yellowjackets opened the season with Summerfield. One week later they rolled past first loss of the season came at Axtell where lost 26 - 13. The highlight of the season was a 15 - together their best tied 1. a 7 - 6 victoryover Clifton 46 - O. The the Yellowjackets 15 tie with rival Blue Rapids. Following the tie the Yellowjackets posted a 25 - O victory over Linn. The second loss of the season came at the hands of Vermillion. After it looked as if the Yellowjackets would tie the Tigers they scored with less play to win 6 - O. than two minutes to Playing the homecoming game before a very good crowd the Yellowjackets won 52 - 6. The final game of the season was played at Linn with the Yellowjackets bringing home a 14 - O victory. Five seniors played their last season at W.H.S. They were Wayne Hill, tackle, Bill Herrmann, guard, Terry Turner, quarter back, Alvin Roepke, half back, and Dean Anderson, fullback. Herrmann, roepke, and Ronnie Mann made the all-county first team.
