SEASON'S RECORD The l9L9 Yellowjacket Football team posted one of the best sea- son's records in recent years. The team won 5 games, lost 2, and tied one. Waterville finished third in the Blue Valley League be- hind Washington and Blue Rapids. The Yellowjackets opened the season with a 27 to 6 win over Beattie. The next week found Waterville battling Clifton to a O to O tie in a game which the Yellowjackets should have won. The next two games were the only losses chalked up against the Yellow- Jackets as they lost to a powerful Washington eleven O to 31 and to Blue Rapids 0 to 7 in a thrilling, hard fought battle in which the black-shlrted local machine should have tucked away a victory. The next four weeks saw a rapidly improving Waterville eleven win the remaining four games, defeating Linn 21 to lb and Summer- field 7 to 6,trouncing Axtell 21 to 6, and rolling over Vermillion 20 to 12 after trailing O to l2 at half-time. The Waterville backfield was composed of juniors - Jean, Jief- endorf, Ely, and seniors - Scott, Johnston, and a sophomore - Glen Taplin. The malnstays in the line were seniors - Knedlik, Herrman, Schmidt, G. Roepke, and a junior - Gail Taplin. Letters were awarded to 15 squad members. Seniors awarded let- ters were D. Danlelsen QCD, N. danlelsen CGD, F. Herrman KTJ, F. Knedlik CED, G. Roepke KEJ, D. Schmidt CTD, R. Scott QBJ, and L. Johnston KBJg juniors: B. Jean CBJ, N. Diefondorf QBJ, P. Donald CCI, S. Ely CBJ, Gall Tuplln RGD, sophomores: M. Sedlacek KGB, and Glen Taplln KBD.
