At last the 1959 YELLONJACKET is in four possession. The weeks of prepara- :ion are over and the book is yours. We are through asking for photographs, in- ?ormation, and activity data. We hope :hat the book is all that you expected-- and more. The entire book is made up by the staff, and the annual is then made from nur dummy by the process known as plan- mgraphing. Although the planotype calls ?or much work and takes considerable sime, it offers a very fine chance for student initiative. we extend our sincere appreciation zo our advisor, Miss Geyer, who very rillingly helped us to complete this :ook successfully. Many hours of her :ime were devoted to this work. We wish to acknowledge our debt to 'ur superintendent, Mr. Ireland, who upervised the business details for us. To the Planograph Yearbook Company if Topeka, Kansas, for the splendid work hey have given us, we also express our ,ppreciation. We are sincerely grateful for the nterest and the cooperation that Mr. 'inley, our photographer, has shown us hroughout the entire time. And in conclusion we thank those students and teachers who gave us photo- graphs and snap shots to add to the interest of our book. It was only with the cooperation of everyone that we were able to publish the YELLGNJACKET. So again, thanks to you. The Editors. Many of the members had been students of rural districts. Ai the first election of officers Joe Thomas was elected presi- dentg Barbara Wilson, vice-presidentg and Dorothy Mae Nelson, secretary-treasurer. With the ringing of school bells in the fall of '36 the freshmen became sophomores. A slight decrease was noted in the enrollment. The newly elected officers were Gilbert Walters, presidentg Dean Norris, secretaryg and Barbara Wilson, treasurer. In the fall of '37 when the class came to- gether, a large increase in the enrollment was noted. The annual election was held and Dorothy Mae Nelson became presidentg Winona Welch, vice- presidentg Joe Thomas, secretaryg and Claire Netz, treasurer, The Junior-Senior Banquet which was held in the high school gymnasium was entirely southern style and was most successful. In September of 1938 this class had reached the rank of seniors. The class elected Barbara Wilson, presidentg Ray Rosebaugh, vice-presidentg Jean Buell, secretaryg and Winona Welch, treas- urer. Miss Anderson and Miss Douglass served as the senior sponsors. Among their accomplishments as seniors we include the senior play, a successful and inter- esting perfomance, and their participation in ath- letics and music. The senior class is well represented in the various extracurricular activities of W. H. S. There are seven seniors in the Garrick Group, ten in the W Club, ten in the Taste and Baste Club, eight in the Pep Club, and sixteen in the Future Farmers Association. The Waterville public school system is maintained on the six-six plan. Grades 1 to 6 inclusive make up the first unit and grades 7 to 12 make up the second unit. This plan in recent years has become very popular and is now being used in many school systems. This type of organization better adjusts the seventh and eighth grade students to what formerly was high school work. Waterville High School has been rated as a Class A school by the State Department of Education. The grade school of the Waterville school system also has an A rating. This is the highest rating that may be given to a grade school. W. H. S. also boasts of membership in the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. These uniforms consist of blue gabertex trousers with gold braid down each side, and red Russian blouses trimmed in red and gold. The cost of each uniform is ten dollars. Both the Blue Rapids High School and Waterville H i g h School bought the same color uniform regardless of the origin- al school colors. This is so that the members of the two bands will be dressed the same on those occasions when one band helps the other. The schools purchased the uniforms with the aid of the city, school district, and mem- bers of the band. The W. H. S. band in order to raise money to help pay for the uniforms will sponsor a bridge benefit and concert at a later date. These uniforms are the pro- perty of the school and will be in the hands of the school when not in use. They will be used on a rental basis, each band mem- ber paying Sl.50 for each year that he uses it and is a member of the band. Probably the first appearance the band will make in the new uniforms will be at Manhattan, Kansas on November 12 at the Iowa State College and Kansas State College football game. Those people who wish to take band cars on that date will be admitted to the game at half price. -, CAST IS SELECTED FOR ADVENTURES OF TOM SAWYERK' The cast for the three-act play The Adventures of Tom Saw- yer was selected last week. S. This Season W. -H. S. Yellwjackets over- turned the Fighting Irish of Summerfield Friday afternoon. 21-7. to defend their place among the undefeated ranks ln grid competition. The Jackets scored their touchdowns in the first, second, and third quarters. Summerfield chalked up their only talley ear- ly in the third stanza: the Ack- erman-Hutchison, passing com- bination proving too baffling for the W. H. S. defense. The Irish grabbed 147 of their 202 net yards out of the air although only 8 of their 24 attempts were good and 2 were intercepted. The first W. H. S. counter came in the opening play of the game when Thomas sliced off tackle for 72, yards arid a touch- down. Roepke plunged for the point. Midway ln the second period, Nichols grabbed a punt and, rac- ed 43 yards before being dropped on the S. H. S. 22. A short gain by Roepke, followed by two pass- es, to Nichols and Benedict, placed the ball on the 9 yard stripe, where Thomas went over for the second talley. Nichols place kicked the point. Late in the third the Jackets again drove to the Summerfield nine. Nichols cut over center for 7 yards to the two. Two more plunges lost two yards and Thomas went over from the 4. A pass, Thomas to Benedict, added one. Larson. Stevenson, Rosebaugh and Walker stood out in the Jacket line while Roepke spark- led in the secondary defense. The Yellowjackets were some- what handicapped by the ab- sence of Norris, stellar fullback and safety.
