Our first big elass assembly was held soon after, and speeial fum Laude Vertifi- eates were given to all Juniors who had been on the Honor Roll four terms in their sophomore year. Needless to say, there were quite a few students in this group. The first of our two big elass events took place on April 12th when, to our great . . s .,.. . ..,. s.1 satisfaetion, we discovered in our elass- mates a vast amount of talent as we sat through our elass play, 'IX Vonneetient Yankee in King 4XI'tlllIl S Vourtf' The entire east dese1'ved eredit for their fine acting! SWF l-f -gf i A. Kelley, R. Mayo, J. Hynes, li. Xkillian, A. Wallaee. P. Fitzgerald. l'. Pappas Cla.. of X948 With fearful hearts and trembling hands we made our entrance into what was then considered l'0ur Wvaterloof' In- deed, it was a full two weeks before the anchor which had so uncomfortably set- tled in the pit of our stomachs gradually lifted, until now-try to find a battle- scarred Sophomore who'll admit he didn't come to anchor easily at YV. H. S. By the time the Sophomore Party rolled aroulld we were seasoned vets Qlllfl had an opportunity to perk up and take note of our surroundings. The party was, of course, a success, due to careful plan- ningby Miss Butterfield and Miss Randall, plus hard work by our homeroom repre- sentatives. The gym was decorated in a clever green and white pattern. Enter- tainment was in the form of movies and a professional dancing couple fthe f'ham- pagnesj who were highly instructive as well as entertaining, and last but not least, we approach the tangibles-ah refreslnnent time!-the ice cream, punch, and cookies made a tremendous l1it, especially in the male section. It was not too long before We felt the need for class officers and a strenuous period of campaigning followed when nail biting seemed extremelyepopular. Finally we chose our leaders-for better or worse Qof course we know it was for better!D Bernard Akillian took top place as president with Arthur Wallace as vice president, Joanne Hynes as treasurer and Peggy Fitzgerald as seeretaryg the executive committee was composed of Philip Pappas, Alicia Kelley and Dick Nlayo. One of the events most of us will always vividly recall was tl1e rallies held in the auditorium, and although slightly awed and tongue-tied at first, we were all filled with a wonderful sense of unity and school spirit. This brings us up to date: so here's a fond farewell and hearty thanks, Cwe mean it, believe it or not,j for a sophomore year we'll never forget. Peggy Fitzgerald, Secretary H561
