PROPHECY OF THE It was the year 1965--ten years after I graduated from Watertown High School. As I sat in my living room one afternoon, my mind began to wander back to old W. H. S. and my classmates of '55, I decided that I would look up my classmates to see what they had chosen for their life's vocation. After quite a bit of inquiring, this is what I learned: Eleanor Roberson, the quiet girl in our class, is operating a beauty salon in Statesville, Tennessee. Ben 'I'homas Powell soon gave up the ideal of progressive farming and became the editor of the Lebanon Democrat. One morn-ing as I was passing the high school building, I saw quite a few of my classmates. I learn- ed that Billie I. Kyle was teaching shorthand, Harold Taylor was teaching chemistry, Don McClanahan, American History, and Doyle Gannon occupied the principal's chair. As I glanced through the Nashville Banner that aftemoon, I saw these words: A Great Revival to Be Held at the Vanderbilt Stadium. I read on. Don Hudson was to be the Evangelist and Elbert Mathis was to direct the congregation in singing. As I turned the page, my eyes caught the glimpse of a familiar face. Yes, it was Douglas Cluck. Under the picture were these words, Baseball Champion. The First Baptist Church was the scene of a wedding the following day--that of Betty A. Malone and Don Bass. Gerald Cowan and Jimmie D. Sherrill are old bachelors now. They can be seen in town every Sat- urday afternoon. Homer Snyder is a very successful mechanic in Lebanon. if , 1 GF' , nw 7 'I'here is a sign at Linwood that reads: Beard and Tribble Fnmeral Home. CLASS POEM United we stand, divided we fall, United we've stood though the number was small: Together we've lived these past few years And the thought of departure brings sorrow and tears. Many happy days we have spent here As we struggled on from year to year: But the time has come when we must depart And a new era in our lives will start. There is work to be done, this work we will dog We will do much before our lives are throughg There is a world to conquer and wars to fight, There is the old to change and the wrong to make right May this class of fifty five be a success tomorrow: May there be much happiness and very little sorrowp May our deeds blossom forth like a blooming flower, And we will offer our thanks to a higher power. Now we are leaving, where will we go? We all have plans, but we don't know. We are leaving here with ambitions high, Schoolmates, Teachers and Friends--good by. Mack Corley Class Poet CLASS MOTTO: United we stand, divided we fall. CLASS COLORS: Red and White CLASS FLOWER: Red Rose
