Student Senate I, Gaveliers I, Girls' and Boys' State A government by the school, for the school, and ot the school -this was our student gov- ernment-Senate and Gaveliers. Problems, some important and some not, were discussed again and again and usually solved. A chance to practice correct parliamentary procedure and student cooperation was given to the representatives of the Student Senate and the Gavelier members, the homeroom presidents. But a bigger and more exciting chance awaited the lucky students chosen to attend Hawkeye Girls' and Boys' State - a program designed to give high school students an inside look at their state's and country's gov- ernments. Contest Play This year's contest play, Alice-Sit-by-the-Fire, written by the author of Alice in Wonderland, concerned a mother's efforts to attain a closer relationship with her three children after being separated from them for several years. With an English setting and fine portrayal of characters, the play advanced to the district meet at Tama. Fall Play A touch of make believe-a modern fairy tale - Mrs. McThing was another fine produc- tion from the speech students and Miss Ruth Wilson. A story of o witch's influence on an aristocratic family and the gang from the other side of the tracks made a humorous and delightfui presentation. CONTEST PLAY W. Schwyhart, S. Cooper, M.
