Ushers A neat appearance, a friendly attitude toward people, a sense of cooperation and efficiency-combined, these qualities rep- resent a group most essential to our school -the ushers. These people, mostly upper- classmen, spent many hours of their extra time to help direct and assist the public. Whether for athletic events, plays, open houses, or the Variety Show, this group could always be depended upon for their greatly appreciated help. They contributed a lot to what we call Wahawk spirit. ll USHERS Stargazers Seeing stars? Yes indeed! Many clear, beautiful nights were spent at the tele- scope by this starry-eyed, star-minded group. interesting programs, trips to the museum, and monthly astronomical re- ports-this was the work of the star- gazers -work and fun. G.R.A. Girls' Recreational Association it is, but lots of hard work, too! Speedaway, field hockey, soccer, and other skillful and exciting games were played throughout the year - mostly in intramural tourna- ments. Hubbard Bible Club To learn more about faith and to provide a social life for the student with a more restricted religion were two objec- tives ot this important organization. These students planned their programs so they could understand and interpret the Bible more fully. This truly was one of West's finest or- ganizations. Y-teens Twice a month Thursday nights were reserved at the YWCA for this group. In addition to their regular business meet- ings, skits and programs were presented by these girls. Discussions from hair styling to gift wrapping and helping a needy family made this club lots ot fun and worthwhile, too. Hi-Y Listening to a refugee tell of his escape - seeing one ot the nation's largest gun collections -hearing all about hypno- tism. These were the Hi-Y highlights this past year. Movie Operators Audio-visual aids are being stressed in modern education-Wahawks are glad they make subiects more fun! Because these 23 boys, under the super- vision of Miss Shellard, devoted their services and library periods, we were all able to enioy the movies shown this past year. Electronics Experimenters With the addition of a few from the fairer sex, this club was a little bit more fun and interesting this year. Most of the real work was done at the students' homes where they met to discuss the mechanics of the radio and other electrical appliances. These, too, are the mighty Wahawks. They had to be -- big bundles of towels aren't exactly light! A valuable and compulsory service was carried out by these girls and boys, for the swimming and physical education classes were never without plenty of fluffy, white towels -well, clean brown towels anyway!
