Shawn Ruppert; Shawn’s wrestling is definitely something to look forward to. As a beginning wrestler, Shawn went through a lot of learning and ended up with a record of 2 and 15. Neil Feldhacker; Neil has an excellent career record of 17 and 6. He suffered an injury at the beginning of the season and was unable to finish it out. Neil should be noted for the excellent skills he has in wrestling. Neil made it to state his sophomore year. The 1986-87 Waterloo Panther Wrestling team proved its strong ability this year by finishing with a 5-3 dual season. Although only short in number, the team made up for some of the dual losses by their drive and determination, which proved them winners. Mr. Jim Bovee coached wrestling again for the tenth year. This year he was nominated as one of the top ten Class D Nebraska state high school wrestling coaches, a very deserving and rewarding honor. Mr. Lynn Vyskocil is also commended for his positive attitude and spirit for the wrestlers. This year the team says good-bye to seniors Neil Feldhacker, Jim Rhoades, Glen Shepherd, and student manager for two years, Steph White. Jim Rhoades: A two time state qualifier, Jim also passed the 100th career win mark. (105) Jim has been a bright spot of the team and finished with a terrific record fo 26 and 9. Congratulations!

This year the Waterloo boys and girls high school track team did quite well. Tammy Andrews broke the school and her own record by high jumping 5'6 . She qualified for state. Other track members who placed at districts were Shawn Teutsch who placed 4th in the 3200 meter run and 6th in the 800 meter run. Renne McDonald, a freshman, placed 6th in the 400 meter run at districts also. Matt Burns high jumped 5'11 for his best jump and did well in the 200 and 400 meter runs. When Coach Pat Ivers was asked about his team he stated, “Our numbers were low, but the people were dedicated and worked very well.” There were only nine people on the team, two of whom were girls, but they had a good season, and Waterloo is proud of their hard work and dedication. 23
