CLASS PROPHECY' V a were traveling through Waterloo in the year of 1987 in our Ā«totalc-powered cĀ«rā On the outskirts of Waterloo wĀ« stopped to tafco a picture of the scenery. Just as ye snapped the picture an old wan hobbled out; of the timber and shouted at us. telling us to set off iff s lend. We bid the rich old hermit, Hank, a hearty farewell and went on into townā Our stomachs told us that it was elwoet tires to oat. As we drove into Waterloo wc noticed how the old town had grown. We wore Just crossing the street to get In our little car v hen a huge, bright red Cadillac came roaring down the street and cane to a screeching halt in front of us. Out jumped a tall, good-looking, middle-aged man, dressed in an Admiralās uniform. We recognized the gentleman immediately as Robert Smith, better known around Waterloo as the Old Salt.' Smitty had truly earned this title, ve soon learned, because he had sailed the seven seas many times and had muny a wild tale to tell of his experiences and cl030 escapes while on his long voyages,, Smitty explained to us that he was on his honeymoon, I thought the woman sitting beside him in the car looked familiar, and now he introduced her 63 the former Harlan Hughesā his old high-school sweetheart. Marian had married a boy from Slkhorn right after she graduated from Waterloo, but fourteen years and seven children later, they parted. Smitty then decided to go into action and he ctartea courting Marian. Now, only sixteen years later, he was f, happy bridegroom and Marian yes his blushing bride., Marian had turned into a beautiful woman in her later years. She wao now a platinum blonde, which was very becoming to her forty-eight years. Smitty md Marian went merrily on their vuy and ve were on ours at long last. It was getting close to evening by this tirea. so my wife and I decided co stop at the next cafe to have a sandwich and a cup cf coffoa. Just as we were turning into a truck stop, a huge tieisel truck pulled in front of us and Y e narrowly escaped a collision that could have been fatal. Two truck drivers jumped out of the truck after it came to a stop and started towards our car. At, I looked at the' drivers more closely against the glare of their bright orange uniforms and their flaming red hair, 1 recognised then to be Beverly Brookley and Nancy Anderson. The drivers were almost to the boiling point over what had happened, but when they recognized ue their tempers cooled. When I asked Yihat thoy were doing driving a Mg truck, they told rue that they had married tha two truck drivers they dated in high school. The hoys had bought a truck in Joint ownership but soon decided to quit driving and stay hone with their families. Nancy and Beverly soon decided that they didnet want a big truck just sitting around and not bringing in any money, so the girls started the G G Transportation Company, whila the boys stayed home to take care of the kids. We told the girls good-by and watched them climb in their truck and drive av y. After the dust settled, we could see them going merrily on their way. At last we were on our way hone, else to have seen our old friends, but sorry to leave them.
