During the season, the Waterloo quintet was stopped seven times, losing to Dupo twice, Freeburg twice, O'Fallon once, Mascoutah once and hnally in the statebound tournament to Valmeyer. Pacing Waterloo in its eighteen wins and seven losses were Captain Bud West, fiery little senior guard, Bob Hoffman, sophomore speediter, Dave Binder, 6' 3 sure shot forward, Bob Wallhaus, 6' 2 junior forward, and 'Raoul Fischer, 6' QM pivot man. Although these players were used rather 1 consistently, we cannot forget such boys as Roger Rehmer, Charles Janson, Glenn Nobbe, Larry Van Pelt, and Frank Morton, who helped put some of I the games on the winning side of the ledgers. i The never say diei' attitude of each player during the season and the fine coaching they had made the Bulldogs the fighting team that has become a Bulldog tradition. x Q l 5 BASEBALL The fighting Bulldog baseball team ended their fall baseball season with an impressive eight won and four lost record. This gala occasion began with a dance, music being furnished by the W. H. S. Dixie Band. During intermission the popular senior girl's sextet added to the evening's entertainment with several selections. The highlight of the evening came when the retiring queen, Marilyn Sims, gracefully passed on her crown to Marlene Sparwasser, queen elect. The queen was escorted to her throne by Glen Limestall, president of the F. F. A. and her attendants, Eileen Sims, Doris Goeddel, Patsy Ruby, and Elaine Rehmer. M54 - as . .Aic i E lf? 3 .'ve V 6 ASW' Junior Prom The Junior Class of Waterloo High School requests the pleasure of your com- pany at a Prom in honor of the Class of 1953 on May 9 at 9:00 p.m. in the High School gymnasium. Those who received this invitation enjoyed an enchanting evening in the roman- tic atmosphere of an Old Southern Garden dancing to the sweet music of Al Hoe- man's Orchestra. The gym was beautifully decorated with blue streamers, a rose covered fence and swinging gate through which the couples entered, and a rose garden in the center. The orchestra was seated on the stage which had been transformed into the veranda of a southern home. t'Pick- aninnies served punch, cookies, sandwiches, and creole pralines direct from New Orleans. The highlight of the evening was the announcement that Miss Helen Mueller had been elected by the Juniors and Seniors in a secret ballot as Miss Junior- Senior Prom of 1953. Following the an- nouncement, Helen was escorted to the stage by Roger Rehmer, vice- president of the Junior Class. The Junior Class president, Charles Janson, then crowned her queen and presented her with a dozen red roses and a11 inscribed compact commemorating the occasion. .,..,f Cperetta After a lot of work on the part of the entire chorus, the operetta, The Ghost of Lollypop Bay, was given with much success and satisfaction. The plot involved two schools, a boys' school and a girls' school, on opposite sides of the bay. Three ghosts haunted the scene, in the person of Mary fJanice Hoganj, a leading spirit among the girls, Dinah QMarilyn Fischcrj, a colored maid, and Marcus Adam John- son fJerome Mehrtensj, a middle-aged negro. The ghosts put much action into the dull life of the two schools. Delightful solos were excellently sung by the main characters, with the girls' chorus, boys' chorus, and mixed chorus singing several songs. Other main characters were Dick QArt Harbisonl, a leader among the boys of his school, Harry A tGlenn Offermannj and Tom fPaul Muellerj, Dick's pals, Midge CDoris Goeddelj and Molly fJeanette Boehnej, Mary's chums. The climax of the story was reached when Miss Jemima Steel fBonnie Schmidtj, principal of the girls' school, and Professor Alvin Flint CBob WVellsJ, principal of the boys' school, announced their engagement and agreed to combine the two schools, and of course, the ghosts were unmasked. Excellent piano accompaniments were rendered by Charlotte Mueller. Scenery was painted by several chorus members, with Roger Tinney acting as chief artist. Stage managers were Jean Kohler a11d Joan Eichelmann. I l FESTIVAL CHORUS HOMELAND ............. Uhl O. Sackrnan, Dir.,' Rita Eshom, Acc. I HEARD A FOREST PRAYING ....... In recognition of the event and to focus attention upon this international organization upon which the hope of World peace rests, an appropriate assembly program was presented by members of the economics class under the direction of Mr. Neumeyer. Seated around a table bearing a display of sixty miniature flags representing the sixty member nations, a panel of six students ex- plained the organization of the United Nations and discussed the functions and objectives of this world peace organization. The members of the panel not only presented an interesting and worthwhile assembly program but also made similar performances before two community organizations during United Nations Week.
