Throughout our years at Waterloo our goal has been to achieve only the best. Every year we have gained more knowledge and experience which have helped us to come a little closer to that goal. In our high school years we have worked diligently and have been rewarded for our efforts with our class sweaters and rings, and our trip to Washington and New York. Then came graduation day. As each one of us stepped forward to receive his diploma, he knew that he had achieved one of the most valuable rewards of a lifetime. Yet it is not the diploma or the class ring and sweater that is the greatest reward for our efforts. These are only symbols for the abstract qualities that have enriched our lives and will continue to do so for as long as we live. The education that we have re- ceived has unlocked for us the door to the great achievements of mankind The door to democracy was also unlocked for us by our education. Of the important by-products of our education, the friendships we have made mean the most to us. We shall always cherish our friendships with our fellow students and carry with us fond memories of our school years at Waterloo. DEDICATION In 1950 Mrs. Robert Love joined the teach- ing staff of Waterloo High School. Since then she has gained the respect and confidence of all . who know her. She is a friend, companion, and good sport as well as an excellent teacher. The Senior Class of 1960 has a deep respect and admiration for Mrs. Love. She has given much of her time and talent in helping us to produce our very successful Junior and Senior class plays. As our class sponsor she guided us through a successful senior year and made it a year we will long remember. For all of these and many other memorable experiences we have shared, we, the Senior Class, as a small token of our appreciation and thanks, do hereby dedicate the 1960 Rosebud to our beloved Mrs. Love. Out of this group twenty- two of them spent all of their school years at Waterloo. After eight years of hard work and fun we finally reached our eighth grade promotion. At last we began our Freshman year. Mrs. Voss was our spon- sor that year. We started our money-making projects for our Senior trip by selling candy and having skating parties. In our Sophomore year our sponsor was Mrs. Peacock. Shortly after school convened, Mrs. Peacock took a leave of absence. Mr. Berg took over the responsibilities of the Sophonapre Class. At this time the main project of the class was the sale of greeting cards. Under his supervision the sales were exceptionally good. Mrs. Peacock returned after eight weeks. Other projects that year were skating parties and a bake sale. We got our class sweaters also. In our Junior year Mr. Ford led us through a pleasant and suc- cessful year. Our main projects were the concession stand and WAY I the sale of pop. We also had bake sales, several sock hops, a car hs wash, a skating party, a WPTA record hop, and a most successful class play, Home Sweet Homicide, ” Love. We also purchased our class rings. Just after school closed the class had an ice cream social and bake sale. TEACHER 3 ee under the direction of Mrs. Finally with hearts filled with joys, disappointments, and hopes for the future, we entered our Senior year. Mrs. Love, our spon- sor, guided us through this, our most important and successful year. This year we sponsored the annual magazine sale, a bake sale, a homecoming dance, several record hops and paper drives and another successful class play, “Belvedere.” We also published our annual. After twelve years of struggle, we finally reached our goal - graduation and the long awaited Senior trip. We wish to thank our parents and teachers and all of the other people who have made this goal possible. We also want to thank Mrs. Love and Mr. Bourquin for being our chaperones. Our trip exceeded all our expectations. Furthering his educa- tion, he attended the University of Toledo where he received his B.S. degree. Mr. Bourquin has taught school for eight years, five of which were here at Waterloo. He teaches U. S. History, civics, boys’ physical education and health and coaches the baseball, track, and varsity basketball teams. His hobbies include sports and watching television. Coach, with his ability to train and dis- cipline the boys, created a team of which the fans were very proud this year. Our school has always been known for its good sportsmanship, and the coach has played a big part in maintain- ing that record by keeping us in the proper school spirit and showing us fair play. To Coach Bourquin - our thanks for one of the most successful seasons the Wildcats have had Dy for many years. 3 | ELEMENTARY | M. HELEN DUNCAN Degree: B.S. One of our greatest achievements was the winning of the 1960 Sectional Tourna- ment. Under the capable coaching of Richard Bourquin, the Wildcats clawed their way through the Sectional Tour- nament to victory over Garrett in the finals. Our first tourney game was played against Butler. Although Butler Was a real threat, the Wildcats chewed them up with a 62-56 victory. Waterloo made good use of their free throws, missing only 7 out of 31. Carroll took high scoring honors for the game with 24 points. On Saturday the scene of action was shifted to Churubusco. We met the Orland Tigers in the first afternoon game. Our Wildcats growled and hissed, and purred right past the Orland Tigers. The score was 69-49. Win- ning that game put us in the finals of the Sectional. Saturday night the Garrett Railroaders, who earned their place in the finals by defeating the Angola Hornets, were thrown into the arena with the Wildcats. The game with Garrett was full of thrills and excitement down to the last second. The Waterloo Cats were off to a good start and secured a ten-point lead in the second quarter. The Garrett Railroaders chugged ahead and came out with a one-point lead at the end of the third quarter. Dur- ing the final quarter, possessed with great determination combined with skill, our team piled up seven points in the last minute and one-half, while holding Garrett scoreless. Waterloo clinched the Sectional - for which they had been working since the age of six (according to Larry Brandon) with a final score of 39-34. This is the first sectional tournament ever won by Waterloo, and the first time in twenty years that the Wild- cats have played in the final game of the sectional tourney. In 1940 they played Garrett and were defeated. The wonderful spirit, the determination on our boys' faces, the fun, the laughter and tears - these will stay in our memory of the 1960 Sectional Tournament. ee —s— Tp A TAYLOR PUBLISHING COMPANY “The World’s Best Yearbooks Are Taylor-made” Prot Ute, aa Ltzeh he. sone as wee y Wt, ha a ae re -_ ee oe ee eee ne eS ee,” a, US = in Se = - = € a , 8 L9Z 8EL OOLG LOS WANN UN ENN AMVs!
