Ideals have molded many lives. You have seen the influence about you. Ideals have meant much to you in your)life. You have held to them, Msacrificed and worked to reach them. One should formulate for his ultimate goal ideals which are high and difficult to régach, The failure to reach one's ideals should not discourage the attempt to reach them, The high quality of all your ideals will determine your achiévement in growth of character, Some people believe that a person must doas the world does, Flexible as things of life may be there are certain fundamentals which your own good common sense must reveal to you. One can safely say, have high ideals and follow then, : Nothing is so valuable and nothing so prom- ising in improving one's character as having hi gh ideals. bea — FT qi tt FL) ae yO i) | . ye es tS ’ agit tae a7 “ FACULTY i! ) ; SST eel) leat ‘oy , ‘ ‘a ) iy ' { i . ‘ 5 i 4 i” et b f : ’ ¢ w ’ Ss ft i2 i } 1 ¥ 4 ‘ ‘ 1 i = ‘ y ¥ ' ¥ Ge ‘ 7 ‘ 7 SOW Syn Fee tak ‘ , i ty ye P n Uh f ae | ‘ | t ’ ‘yf ' ix 5 MRS. AP Vr OUR SENIOR CLASS We soon have to leave all the sorrow and joys, But we'll not go without first making a noise. We'll tell the whole world of the fun we have had 4nd that in Waterloo High School, we've been happy and sad. Some will travel, I suppose, after school days are o'er, Sone will study and work and continue to do more. But we know of no class in ell of these years, That can be compared with our Seniors thats here. There's George, our president, our leader of course, And Kline, a good scout, who never is cross. And Doc Sebert, whom, sometimes is called Duke, He's tall, he's slender, we all think him cute. Then there's Evelyn Hefty, she's the fun of our class, She's going to ster, you can imagine her, I guess. She laughs and she jollies most of the time, Mr. Overmeyer thinks he'll scold her sometime. And Lena Myers, she's the smart one in here, She studies and works, with never a fear. With typing and history - she's handy at thet, She's sweet and friendly - and will always stand pat. Then Geraldine Dixon, well she tukes the czcke, I don't think there's a study that girl couldn't take. She doesn't need to study - she has it right there, You'll find her a good sport to have enywhere. Oh! Yes, thet reminds me ther's Tuffy to get, There isn't = one, doesn't like him, I'll bet. He teases und abuses, cll the girls in the cléss, But we leugh end just tike it - though it's hard to let pass. Then the one's that jumps and gets about lots, is the Newcomer Twins, for which things ere tops. They leugh and they joke and don't worry a bit, Wherever they go, it's to meke a big hit. Oh! My goodness, ther's Marguret - with never e kick, In Waterloo High - she likes to play tricks. She likes to dence end heve a good time, But when she works - she's there to « rhyme. Of course this is not all of this glorious class, But to make this much longer would be tiresoie, I guess. So you'll just have to see us — on some coming dey, To determine whether or not, we're ull thet I say. Washinton Blvd. { Cincinnati, Ohio | December 5, 1945 Dear Annamae: I took the advice of the advertisements saying, See America First, and wnile on my tour I saw many of tne members of the Class of '37. At Chicage I went to a little tea room to get a bite to eat. To my surprise I learned that Wilma Gafken was the proprietor. She told me that she had been operating it for about five years. She was en - gaged to a well-known G-man, but he was killed in an attempt to break up a gang of racketeers. That evening Wilma and I went to gee . the new picture, You, the Moon, and I, just recently re- leased by Warner Brotsers, starring the new radio and screen commedians, Evelyn Hefty and Wayne Kerns. I laugned so much that I thought I'd never be able to laug” again. Kernsie acts just like he used to in high school, if not crazier. A few days iater I went to Des Moines, Towa. Picking up the Des Noines Times, eaited by George Hire, I saw a piece entitted,. Mayom Sebert Meets Femous Aviatrix at City Airport. Mayor Sebert! Coulc it be Doe ® Sebert, IT wonadsred? Jack Forn has been a guide there for six ‘years now. He said that he likes his work very much. He wanted to be a forest ranger, but they didn't have a position for him then so they gave him a job as a guide. Going to Seattle by plane I met our old friend Miartha Bolinger. She was the stewardess of the plane. in Seattle, I réceivyed a telephone call one afternoon, It was from Geraldine Dixon. She is finishing her training in the Good Samaritan Hospital there. It was her evening off so she came over to my hotel room and we talked for hours. Running out of subject matter we tuned in on Otto McDonald's Hit Parade. He took Bing Crosby's place as America's most popular crooner. As a guest star he presented Derwood Smith the modern Robert Taylor. At Globe,Arizona where I went when bt left Seattle, I saw Rachel Smith, who has established a mission school there. Harry Johnson is a real-estate agent in Globe, and he seems to be quite prosperous. Wishing to see the sights of the city I telephoned the Globe Site Seeing Company. The guide who showed me around was none other than Carrol Leas, I chartered a plane, of which George Friend was piolt, from Globe to Eagle Pass, Texas on the Rio Grande. Donald BeVier and his orchestra The Blues Chasers entertain at a very popular night club in the city of Eagle Pass. : After spending a few days in Eagle Pass I went to Nashville. DeLoss Crooks and Bill Holman own and op- erate a large taxi cab concern in Nashville. While there I attended the W.S.M. Grand 91' Opera the lead- ing star being Helen Imler. tee a “SA AWHS Phe Going to Palm Beach, Florida, whom do you think I met the very first tning? None other than Earl Kline and Margaret Fee Kline, who were on their second honeymoon. He and Margaret were married the first time about five years ago, but they agreed to disagree and Margaret got a divorce. Three months ago they both began teaching at Waterloo High, Barl is the athletic coach, and Margaret is the Orchestra and Band Director. Resuming old acquaintances they again de- cided to venture out upon the Sea of Matrimony. From Palm Beach I went to New York City. Visit- ing the Art Iluseum I came upon a very beautiful oil painting by the former Helen Newcomer, now the wife of an officer in King George VI personal body guard. Taking a bus to Philadelphia, I met Karl Starkey, who is a traveling salesman. He said that business had been rather bad, but he expected it to pick up a Little later ons I returned to Cincinnati by plane. When Zt started on my trip I left my home in charge of one of our leading interior Gecorators, Merlen Newcomer, with instructions to completely refinish it. I wish you could see it now. It is sinply beautiful. Don Turner, our most prominent dairyman, won the dairymen's contest that I told you was going to take place. He owns the largest dairy I believe I ever Sav. Through the help of our teachers and the community we have worked our way through eight grades, earning the title of the green freshman class. Ae It was in the seventh grade that we really organ-: ized our class. We selected our class colors flower and motto at that time and we still have them. Our boys won the Junior High Basketball Tournament, that was in the year 19356. In the year of 1936 we also took a step into High School. The Commercial Depart- ment also has charge of the Trail Blazer, the school paper, and the annual. There are eleven students enrolled in Business English, This is a very interesting subject where those in the class explore English in the light of business usage. Shorthand class has only six students, who have learned to transcribe as well as take diction. The Typing class consists of twenty-seven stud- ents, who have learned the fundementals of typing. The typing class has also done all the typing requir- ed for the school paper and the annual which were pub- lished this year. There are twenty-six students enrolled in the first year Bookkeeping class and one student who takes advanced Bookkeeping. They have learned the rudiments of Bookkeeping and Accounting and have perfected their knowledge by working with facimles of real business papers. The students in Commercial Law have Learned the use of many of the legal terms and papers. Consumers Economics class had students who stud-— ied economics in the sense of a purchaser. The school paper and the annual were published this year through the efforts of those enrolled in the Commercial Department under the supervision of Mr. Andrews. Neither one of the projects would have been possible without the new mimeograph machine which was purchased by the school board this year. -Geraldine Dixon '37 A y= Ts eee sy ees oP Rt, PC ER. ea Te ata arariai.2£ A | LA PR | we: 7; VY a.
