Due to an untimely snowstorm, the dance was held on Monday night with school the next day. The Freshman Dance was a huge success due to the help of the class advisors Mr. and Mrs. Courtney. On May 5, 1973, the Class of 1974 presented its Junior Prom, String of Pearls. The scene was an undersea paradise hosting a whale, an oc- topus, a treasure chest filled with gems and gold coins, and a sunken ship. The Waterloo Football team enjoyed one of the finest seasons ever with a smashing 8-1 mark under first year men- tor Jim Anderson. The tribe was led by many talented seniors who helped mold this club together. Tony Gringeri and Dan Rosata ranked second and third respectively as the league's top rushers both galloping for well over 1000 yards. Waterloo was well represented on this year's all-conference team. Given first team selections for offense were: Ron Morganti tguardl, Rick Amidon tcenterl, Dan Breeze ftacklel, Toni Gringeri thalfbackl, and Dan Rosata lhalfbackl. First team defensive selections were: Jim Sessler tlinebackerl, Dan Rosata llinebackerl, Rick Amidon tinterior linel, and Dan Breeze tinterior linel. Larry French, the kicking specialist, was picked on the se- cond team for the all-greater Rochester area. French is credited with the second longest field goal in New York State history, a boot of 47 yards. 6 Points fI'0m PGI'fGCt , H V I Lf: K 1 Seniors: Row 1: Dan Patsos, Rick Amidon, Jim Sessler, Bill Eshenour, Dan Stone. The players and coaches did their very best, and had many well-played games on their record. The experience gained from this year should make the team ready for Mr. Anderson next fall. The pun-maker himself Section Five Champs The Waterloo Varsity Cross Country team became the first team in Waterloo history to win the sectionals and participate in the State Meet. Under the brilliant coaching of second year head man, Mr. Edward Courtney, the team had many accomplishments. First, they rolled to an impressive, unbeaten 11-0 mark in the league and topped that off by winning the League Meet. ln this race, the Tribe was led by Ron Stewart l5thl, Dave Christiano t6thl, Jim Benedicks f8thJ, Rich Christiano t10thl, and Lenny Church t17thl. The varsi- ty finished an amazing 5th of 47 teams in the McQuaid Invitational, losing only to much larger schools. ln the Waterloo Invitational, the team was unstoppable as they placed 1st of 18 teams. They were led in this race by Dave Christiano t5thl, Ron Stewart t9thl, Rich Christiano t1Othl, Jim Benedicks l17thl, and Lenny Church t25thl. But then, the varsity achieved their main goal with a smashing victory in the Sectionals. With 33 teams competing, the Indians won by the biggest margin in 15 years. In this race, they were led by Dave Christiano l5thl, Rich Christiano t11thl, Jim Benedicks t18thl, Ron Stewart t20thl, and Lenny Church t39thl. The other members of the varsity on that day, Jim Maher and Bob Barczynski, also finished well in the 220 man race. Each team member received a beautiful white shield for their winning efforts and Dave Christiano received a blue shield because ofthe fact that he placed in the top 7. In the State Meet, the Indians ran a trifle sub-par in the snow covered, gruelling, 2.5 mile course on a cold day. On this day the Tribe was led by Ron Stewart t71stl. The Indians finished 9th in State for Class B schools out of 330 schools. The team hopes to defend their Section V ti- tle next year with a fine team returning. They will also try to stretch their 18 straight dual meet streak, set by the Tribe harriers this year. Coach Courtney now has accumulated a two-year dual league record of 19 wins with only 2 losses. Including every race, the varsity finished with a super 110-12 record this year. Dave Christiano finished his two-year career with a dual meet record of 17 wins and 4 losses. SENIORS: Sitting, I. to r.: Rich Christiano, Vic Montag, Dave Christiano, Bonnie Garrett. Kneeling: Don Korleski, Bill Sigrist, Bill Quackenbush, Steve Dressing, Ron Stewart. J.V. This year the J.V. team had a perfect year. Under the guidance of Coach Courtney, the Jayvees rolled up a record of 11-0. They also won the League Meet by a decisive margin. ln this meet, Bob Barczynski finished 1st, Doug Daeffler was 2nd, Mike Lynch was 4th and Ed Kinney was 7th. Coach Courtney has a surplus of talent for the future. Row 1: John Benedicks. Flow 2: Flon Toth, Joe DiLorenzo, Ted Kocken, Chris Gleason, Merle Whitbeck, John Cleere, Lee Vreeland. Varsity Soccer The girls' record of 1-8-1 may not seem very im- pressive, but it does not tell the whole story. A lot of teams defeated Waterloo by a very slim margin. Their lone victory was also the only loss for the otherwise un- defeated Midlakes team. This was a year of rebuilding for the girls. Some ex- perience should be gained for next year. Flow 1: D. This is only the second year in which girls have been competing in Volleyball at a Varsity level in Waterloo. This years record was 7-5, and a third place finish in the league. The team has improved vastly since last year. There were only three returning players from last years squad. They are Mary Jones, Debbie Amidon, and Nan- cy Hoffman. The other members of the team were mostly freshmen, with a couple of juniors. The team should be a strong contender in the league next year. With the five starters from last year's club returning, the girls basketball team should have a very successful season. Lisa Christenson and Deb Amidon led the team in rebounds, while Toni DelVechio, Linda Dunlea, Nancy Hoffman, and Monica Ber- tino are the scoring leaders on the team. Girls Basketball Flow 1: L. The exciting Indians, under the guidance of Coach Dunn, played with a distinct height disadvantage. Although the Tribe compiled a so-so record, they proved that they were as good as anybody else. The Indians defeated a tough Geneva team by 19 points and then took a league power team, Newark, on their own floor, into an overtime before bowing. Under the new classification system for the Section V Tournament, Waterloo will become the largest school in their class and will be respected as tough competition. Mr. Boyes and Mr. Edleman had some help this year. Miss Robin- son from Ithaca taught for the first six weeks. Even though her stay was short, we enjoyed her very much. The band put on two half time shows this year, one for Homecoming Weekend, and one for the Mynderse-Waterloo football game. This show was performed along with the Mynderse band. Both shows were very enjoyable and the band should be congratulated for its hard work and dedication. , E Band Leaders All of the band seniors feel that even though we will be graduating this year, the band will still be strong. AFTER COLLEGE? Since 1874, time of the above engraving, more young men in Waterloo probably graduated to Goulds than graduated from high school. Fortunately, for both education and Goulds, things have changed. Both have grown enormously. Today the opportunities for education, both high school and college, are greater than ever before. The demands on the students, how- ever, are growing more intense. There is more com- petition. Same with pump companies. Some keep growing, others are drop-outs. Back in 1874, for ex- ample, there were fourother pump companies in Sene- ca Falls. They're all long gone. We have some com- petitors, today, who are on shaky ground. They haven't done their homework, i.e., no new products, new ap- proaches to markets, etc. Success inschooling, suc- cess in pump manufacturing, both are the product of determined, skilled, enlightened people. We have them at Goulds Pumps, Inc., and we're proud that a great number of our key people are Waterloo Central graduates. Many are those who have gone on to col- lege and then returned to Waterloo and to Goulds. These illustrations show the change in Goulds plant facilities in the past 90 years. But Goulds is moving faster than that. In the past 10 years sales have more than doubled. To keep growing we need more good people to grow with. Consider Goulds as a good place to work after high school or college. .. .mi i M is 4, 1 till' established in 1848 GOULD'S PUMPS, INC. .A Md' X if N W' ,Q fb G A. x , jf R. by xlpfxww ,AQ +3 Mfwjf VM FW www W Vw MW Q W MK Qidiiitgdgpifiyjfww y, MW 616014 f Y 'N MgJWb. f'JU5Wfv'f'A' WQWWZWMQJ ffllfwjlfiff WMZZ7 Mtv, Qjffdfwvffyfgf W6 fc Www JW MW wwMdmjffjQ Uf5U MXQQJMMLW Wqfwdy OQQH5 0LJLKgEESgMgkS?E?gQTHEc 4 A A Q ff!!
