Noth- ing can give us more hajrpiness in later years than a record of such incidents which occur at no other time in life than in adolescence. It is, therefore, with great pride that we pre- sent this senior yearbook. ' sp- F5 Q 4? Hi. 'f 75: -.. f' . Q., ' A-. , .5 , l51 Se I 0 fi l. 4. 5. Albert S. Brown Norman C. Brust Helen Fahy . E It is not my purpose to define, or to demand patriotism for the students of Hfaterloo High School. It can be truly stated that the response of the students to our war with the Axis has been thoroughly satisfactory. It is not necessary to excite the students to :rwjllingness to sacrifice or contrib- ute to our war effort. They have been ready andfaxgixious to do all in their power. One phase of preparation has been neglectedffftis my purpose to bring home to the Students of Hfaterloo High School the importance of personal integrity and personal high character. A nation's character is the sum of the traits of its citizens. After the war the United States will assume world leadership. She must, if only to prevent the recurrence of the present flaming fiasco. Our country will find responsibilities of world leadership more demanding than military adventure. XVe will fail, and fail miserably, in the post war world, unless our citizens measure up, in total, to the high standards so necessary in any truly great leader. It is, therefore, the primary task of the class of lf?-12. to so develop to so train themselves, that they will not be found wanting when their country calls upon them lo bear part of the responsibility of keeping world order and world decency a living and worthwhile thing. IN MFMORIAM KURT MESSERSCHMIIYI' Mm-fn 2. 1935 HENRY hmmm: lmcmtm 17, 1926 It is with deepest synlpatlty that wc, the class of 1942. devote this space in the Skoi-Yase to these two mem- bers who passed on before they 1'e1u'hetl grzltluzltion. U81 R Clary Hiytory The afternoon of graduation, Helen sat in her room reminiscing the events of her high school days. These thoughts ran through her mind: How green our Freshman class of '42 had been when it began its school career. Some of the Freshman had heard that Mrs. jones taught English I, and so, after wandering around the halls they finally found themselves in the History C class for Seniors. After we became acquainted with the high school customs, however, the following officers were elected: President, Milton Jonesg Vice President, Jane Shirleyg Secretary, Mae Andersong Treasurer, Sally O'Brien. Our first entertain- ment was in the form of a Frosh Frolic. Later our class adopted blue and white as our class colors and for our banner. Our first eventful year ended with a class picnic at Cayuga Lake. The following year we came back bright, spirited sophomores, to elect these class officers: President, Milton Jonesg Vice President, June Storyg Secretary, Mae QAndersong Treasurer, jack Caldwell. As always, the class presented the Sophomore Hop and were duly rewarded. Our junior year began with much excitement, for this year there were many events to carry out. First of all the following officers were elected: President, jack Pontius, Vice President, Sally O'Brieng Secretary, Barbara Schreck: Treas- urer, Jack Caldwell. That fall we held our Junior Harvest Dance which drew a big crowd. In the Spring, Barbara Schreck and June Story, Don De Lamarter and Robert Vogt were chosen to represent the junior Class in the annual Junior-Senior Prize-Speaking Contest. After careful tryouts a Junior Play, That Crazy Smith Family was presented. It proved to be a real hit. In June, the traditional junior Prom was held with great success. All too soon our last and only Senior year arrived. This was the year Charles Ralston was locked in his locker for the duration of fifth period by some senior boys. Officers of the class were as follows: President, Jack Ponti'Q13 Vice President, Sally O'Brieng Secretary, Barbara Schreck: Treasurer, Orville Vwiite. Miss Nilsson and Mr. Hahn were our advisors. The first social event of our final year was the Senior Play, Crazy House , which brought to our class success socially and finan- cially. In December, Sally O'Brien was chosen Queen of the Senior Ball, which was one of our largest attended dances. For Senior Prize-Speakers, Charlotte ,Weyburn and Mary McHugh were chosen to represent the girlsg Orville White gidkobert Cook to represent the boys. f i' , V M 7. ,Ma , , As Helen brought her thoughts up to date, she was awa 'W WJ e many happy days she had had in Waterloo High School, and of the many happy ones yet to come in life. ll9l ..ff 'i S -xl.
