It's the scotch tape of the future, adding strength to his weak spots. An individual is taught to think, to work, and to relax. This all is important if one is to meet an ever-changing adult world. This same individual makes up the main staff of life of a high school. A school is what you make it, isn't a new thought. In a sense, it is under-used. You can point to a school sweater and say That's from Clarkston or Those are Waterford's colors. But you can never point to an individual and say that. You have no way of knowing until you meet the finished product. Who, among us, receives more complaints, pleas, threats, gray hairs and worries than anyone else? Who defends the Fort against present day villains? D. C. Qbehind his back, and that man, Weaver. You'll find him in the halls, at school social affairs, class meetings, any place he's needed. In this school we've really come to know our principal as a person. A part of this background will always be with us. Our scotch tape is our principal: the glue, our teachers. It is with--pride and honor that the Waterlog staff dedicates this book to the foreman, Donald C. Weaver. June 1952 5 V' A' TO- i-Il-SE A ND WA' ERLOG STA FF D. Harken N. Now, with four years of learning to their credit and the largest class ever to graduate from Waterford, they treasure fond memories of the past. As freshmen they got together and sponsored an auction sale and several Wednesday night dances. That year they ended with a total of 8340. 94. Looking back a year, this class felt better organized than they were the year before and welcomed the incoming class with the Freshman- Sophomore Mixer. During the second semester, they presented a style show in which members of the class modeled. Their treasurer's report read 3703. 40. During their junior year, Show Boat was the outstanding event where new talent was presented. Fudge sales and various dances brought the treasury up to S1664.47. Now the great days have come! They are really seniors. Heading their class are: Gerald Hargraves, presidentg Robert Turnbull, vice- presidentg Donna Kay Lamberton, secretaryg and Marietta Mack, treasurer. To lead off with senior events, they worked and made a success of the paper sales. The annual Senior Carnival was presented on schedule. Through teamwork they had a good time and made it a fine production. To X give a little aid to the seniors were Miss Houghton and Mr. Garland, class L 4 advisors. St. Mary's was the place chosen for the senior trip. ka 'L S R Nm ff S xy ' f If X K. Ackerman Qco-capt.j D. Card squad suffered a hapless season with one win and seven defeats. No or what the score was the Skippers were playing their hearts out until was the big reason for the low scores during the early part of the unable to hit pay-dirt. In the first 3 games a total of 21 points were which is very good but we scored none. In the first football game played under Coach Ashley the Skippers were edged out in a close tussel with a final score of 6-0. Waterford made costly fumbles every time they had a scoring chance. The following week Waterford played host to Cranbrook and was stopped by the small margin of 2-0. Cliff Wood was tackled in his own zone for the safety. The Skipper line of Gorden Wigner, Don Card, Bill Jacober, Bill Ackerman and Jerry Hargraves did a good job of holding the Cranes offense. Walled Lake shut out Waterford 13-0 in the next game. The Vikings showed us some good ball handling and trick plays. The victory hungry Skippers set sail against Farmington and coasted an 8-0 victory. Rick Jones tackled a Falcon runner in the end zone for the safety and Bud Thomason drove over from the seven yard line for the other 6 points. The Farmington victory put some spark into the team and they were out to defeat Van Dyke. Waterford was leading until the 3rd quarter when a couple stray passes set up a scoring chance and the team fell apart. Waterford lost 20 - 6. The next three games were with Roseville, Birmingham and Owosso. Birmingham was the best class B team in the state and Roseville was among the top ten also. Owosso was rated fourth in the state for class A schools. Roseville ran wild against Waterford and racked up 33 points to our 6. Quarterback Joe Emery was the big gun as he ran, kicked, and passed his team to victory. Birmingham was the next big test for the Skippers, but the powerful Maples, led by All- State Tom Tracy's 3 touchdowns and 2 extra points piled up 35 points to win easily. Waterford held Birmingham fTom Tracy inc.j to 13 points in the first half but not the second. Final score was 35-0. The Skipper ll ventured to Owosso for the final game of '51. Waterford played their best game of the season as they were defeated by the strong Trogons by the score of 25-0. 72 ?, .S 412 I ff 443 ZZSTM If 1 V. - - My ,I Q ' .4 132 ' , V N , Who S got the ball? Kerry Keating and company had much help coming from the front line consisting of Fitzgerald and Attard at end, Ish and Minton at tackle, Parker and Gorman at guard, and Cook at center. The first mates defeated Keego Harbor 18-0, but a wrench was thrown into the works by Birmingham when the junior Maples defeated Coach Cosgro's boys, 19-0. Walled Lake kept the wrenches flying by again defeating Keating and company in a rough, tough 6-0 battle. The first- mates again started rolling by trouncing Farmington Jay Vee's 20-7 and in quick succession tripping Cranbrook's Little Cranes, 12-7. This made possible a 3-2 season for Coach Cosgro's debut as a Skipper coach. The Skippers placed 3-1f2 points behind Farmington and 10-1f4 points in front of Berkley. Both these teams whitewashed the thinclads in regular meets. The stickmen found rough going in the Clarkston game as Clark Rouse held them to seven hits. A strong Pontiac team soundly defeated the Skippers. Six errors aided Waterford in making a come back as they dumped Farmington 9-4, but were edged by Rochester 4-3 in a rough battle. Lynn Wyckoff allowed but 5 hits while losing. Bud Thomason making his first high school pitching start, turned in a fine three-hit per- formance against Berkley. Bub helped the cause by wacking out a double and a single. Jack Kratt also had a couple of two-baggers. Waterford won 5-3. The Skippers racked up their only shut-out 5-O from Oxford as Jack Frizzle hurled a bril- liant four-hitter. The boys went wild on the base paths as they stole 15 bases. A vengeful Farmington squad defeated the Skippers 4-3 in a tough 8-inning battle. Sam Savas blasted a four-bagger with a mate aboard. Pontiac walked over the Skippers 12-2 as Jack Kratt suffered the loss. Cranbrook gave Waterford another dubbing by the score of 13-2. Both losses were due to poor hitting and fielding. The ball-club wound up the 1951 season with a thrilling extra-inning tussle with Clarkston in which Waterford came out on top 8-6. Kratt homered and Savas had 3 for 3. Sam Savas, Tom Cuthrell, and Bud Thomason were the only players to hit over . 300. Savas set the pace with .354 with Cuthrell .352 and Thomason hitting .3l8.
