While they were still in school, they worked hard to build up their treasury and by the end of their freshman year they had accumulated S516.44. This was made by paper drives, dances, a box social, and fudge sales. As sophomores the class made over a thousand dollars working on many of the same activities. They ended with a grand total of Sl540.71. By the time they were juniors the class was pretty well on their way towards their final goal and especially a nice senior trip. Their most prominent events during this year were the Showboat and the Junior-Senior Banquet. At the end of the year the treasurer's report was Sl882.43, Then the great day came. They were seniors ! Their year was full of money making activities, including dances. Bar W Roundup, fudge sales, and paper drives. Then in May came the annual prom held in the new high school and to top the whole four years--the senior trip to Portage Point. There were a lot of happy times in those four years, and they will be treasured for life by the seniors of 1951. 9' f 0 8 'cough ' 4 s'aQg,'d,l-6'1 .'. l :E 0 , O '-1 I I -EH 3 N A W ax 1 X oooaoonooqolv' rs' f'H ' -ff IX ' 4 7 f ,Nr-1, o : ' 'I I iff n , vi. With this to back them up, the class of 1953 should take with them courage and determination to weath- er future school adventure in the following two years. I 1-' M , ...Q 4 ' Q, . Q . ' va. ' . Well, a lot of good things and good times have happened since then. Everyone really worked hard to see the day when the new building would be finished. That day finally arrived this year and every single student and member of this community is mighty proud. We are grateful to the many people who made that dream come true. One of the people who did a lot to accomplish this feat is our Super- intendent of Schools, Mr. William Shunck. So, the seniors of 1951 dedicate this book to Mr. Wil- liam Shunck, who made it possible for us to graduate from a fully accredited Waterford Township High School, a school which any student would be proud to attend. '- -1- ,A ., -'- N ' Three wins against four losses doesn'tx sound like a good football record, but how the team took its losses is another story. When rival coaches will come over and congratulate the coach of his opponents for the sportsmanship displayed by his team, the school can be well proud of her gridiron boys, and Waterford is proud of them. Waterford started the season out in style as they blanked Bloomfield 39-0. Next their arch rivals, Clarkston, met the Skippers on the brand new Waterford field and were out- scored 32-6. Was also the score of the Madison game as the Skippers took their third game. The undefeated Skippers then locked horns with an undefeated Fitzgerald and came off second best, 7-0, although they out-gained the Fitzgerald eleven in downs and yardage. Going ahead in the last 40 seconds and then losing by one point in the last 15 was a heart- breaking experience that the Skippers suffered at the hands of Roseville. Birmingham handed a 20-6 loss to the Skippers as quarterback Sam Savas tried to find out who he was for three quarters. As a final heartbreaker the Keego Harbor Presidents edged out a one point margin to defeat the Skippers 7-6. 1115111495 side-lined most of the varsity at one time or another as injured ribs, wrenched knees, sprained elbows and ankles, and mild concussions took their toll of players. Rare was the game when the complete first string finished. The Skippers' offensive was good considering, the fact that a different man played a different position in nearly every game. Passing was quite strong as Konzer and Savas pitched to Parmenter and Wyckoff for first downs. Needing a yard or two, it would be Thomason through center or a quick sneak around end by Radtke. The pass defense was not the best, but the line was good and stopped many teams from scoring on the two-yard line. In each of their three losses, Waterford lost by two runs. Cranbrook won 5-3, Keego Harbor won by a score of 6-4. The Skippers were held scoreless by Rochester 2-0, for the only time. It didn't come as a surprise though, they were held hitless also. Backstop Leo Larkin captained the team and did an exceptional job of it using brain power when arm power failed. On the mound were Lynn Wyckoff, Jack Frizzle, and Bill Tomlinson. A11 three of these pitchers did very Well on the mound as the scores show Although Skipper power at the plate was poor, their fielding' wasn' t. Very few balls got misplaced by the gardeners. Strangely enough the varsity Skippers had all sophomore out- field in Rose, Senk, Thomason, and Cuthrell. Third and first were held by juniors, Savas and Parmenter, while second and short were held by seniors, Studt and Stamp. Baseball letter-winners were few, ten in number.
