Well, these Dramatics Club members are getting a good start in practising for stage work Qbe- hind the scenes as well as in frontl. Besides actual roles in plays, members learn staging, make-up, prop- erties, and the general principles of dramatics. Improved staging and better sets were the two aims that played the most important part in this year's work. Miss Looman gives her drama students a variation in types of acting to find what type each one is best suited for. This year the outstanding activities were the play, Beauty and the Beef, Ca teen-age comedyj, the ini- tiation exercises, and the Children's Theater. Despite large scores in some games, touchdowns did not come easily. The Skippers' powerful run- ning attack and excellent blocking accounted for the touchdowns gained. Coach Ortiz is proud of his teamls 6-2 record, but is prouder yet of their sportsmanship. No matter how tough or rough a game would be, the boys would play clean football. To their way of thinking, a good, hard, clean block was worth two unsportsmanlike ones. In most of our winning games, the losing coach would come over to congratulate Waterford for its clean play. Football has its humorous side at Waterford also. Jac! Nelson, guard, has a unique talent for playing in his opponent's backfield. Sam Savas, back, going to a game without his spikes caused a few comments. On occasions, Waterford'S backfield men played line and the line took over the backfield. After football practice in the Burr Bowl, most of the boys would pair off and pick sand burrs out of each other's hide. Despite all this, Waterford will be fighting again next season for a 8-0 record. Baseball SPORTS Under the leadership of Coach Ortiz the Skippers wound up the baseball season with an 8 won and 2 lost record The Sklppers were a free swinging outfit driving across 78 runs while giving up 35 Max Stamp was the leading slugger with a 412 average Harvey Craft banged out a 500 average but did not play all season On the mound LynnWyckoffp1tchedfor a 5 won 2 lost record and Jack Friz- zle came in with a 3 won no defeat record The booming bats of the Skippers gave the pitchers a feeling of security in many a game Leo Larkin, Skipper backstop took charge of the games on the field and did an exceptional Job Practice for the Skippers began in early spring and consisted of strenuous exercises running batting and fielding drills Many boys dropped out of prac tice because of low marks or because they didn t like the exercises, but the maJor1ty of the boys stayed with the team throughout the season Although only twelve boys received letters the team was a large one Many boys lacked only three or four innings for a letter The baseball letter winners for 1949 are H Craft L Larkin B Studt M Stamp D Parmenter K Leece O Wibley B Tomlinson J Frizzle L Wycoff and G Conibear Waterford Waterford Waterford Waterford Waterford Waterford Waterford Waterford Waterford Auburn Heights Pontiac J V Cranbrook .T V Pontiac J V Cranbrook J V Rochester Rochester Auburn Hel hts Clarkston ' : . , .
