' BASEBALL An outstanding individual can do a great deal more toward winning a game in baseball than he can in football. For this reason, Waterford's first horsehide season was much more of a success than its initial grid season 119475. The hardwood boys managed to cop four victories while being handed six de- feats. jack Davidson Cnow of the U.S. Coast Guardl was great in pitching W.T.H.S. to two victories, While bowing in defeat only once. The two wins were against Detroit Country Day 13-0 on one hit, and against Clarkston 14-O without one base knock. However, jack had wonderful support, as can be seen from the scores. The complete 1948 record follows: Waterford Clarkston Waterford---4 - Auburn Hts. Egg, TRACK Q, v A If I A ,fra -- as he The year 1949 marked the beginning of a new competitive sport at Waterford Township High School. Because of the unlimited opportunities in the track field, nearly everyone who so wished was able to compete in the meets. For this reason, track looks as if it has found a permanent spot at Waterford. As soon as the spring breezes began blowing around W.T.H.S., about forty-five cinder hopefuls turned out for the workouts which included several laps around the football field and a few exercises, such as sit-ups, chin-ups, and push-ups. For the first part of the season, the majority of these work- outs were carried on during physical education classes. After about two weeks of this training hurdles were set up, pits were dug, and tracks were marked off. From then on, work progressed rapidly in all lines. Waterford's track and field team concentrated in ten events: the dashes C100, 200, and 440 yards, 5 mile, and milel, relays, high and low hurdles, shot put, and the high jump. On April 16, the trackmen went to the Yost Field House at P the University of Michigan where Z they participated in the Ann Arbor g Relays. Throughout the season, var ious meets were scheduled but results were not known at press time G ff 'Umm 5..- - pg. J a . ' , . 'Z ' A-fiiifr. A 0 s-f ? i'e' .ti
