FORDIAN 1966 Waterford- Halfmoon High School Enter To Learn . . . Contents ADMINISTRATION.................................Leading and Following TEACHING AND LEARNING.......................... A Never Ending Process SPORTS-----------------------------------------Winning and Losing ACTIVITIES.....................................What We Do CLASSES........................................Who We Are COMMUNITY SPIRIT...............................The Heartbeat of Education Foreword Looking ahead, upon leaving high school, we endeavor to realize our dreams. It is a common thought that dreaming is, though enjoy- able, unnecessary. Leave the dreaming to the poets” is a philosophy of many. The question of whether to follow this outlook or not I will leave to you, with some advice. Dream to your hearts content, build your make-believe castles among the clouds. Concentrate during your formative high school years on self-improvement. Through diligence and hard work the dreams may begin to be realized. The castles in the sky will begin to take shape with education as their foundation. We, the Class of 1966, have a long road to follow and many catles to build. It is with this thought that we, the staff, take a quick glance backward upon leaving and respect- fully present to you The 1966 FORD IAN Go Forth To Serve . . . Dedication TO A MAN WHO IS HIMSELF DEDICATED In recognition of his patient assistance and valuable guidance as our advisor, the Class of '66 dedicates our Fordian to Mr. Burrill Burke. The words tireless and resourceful will be synonymous with our memory of him. 4 To Mr. Burke 5 Yearbook Gayle Richards Co-Editor Jo-Anne Mayo Co-Editor Sandra Dziarcak Business Manager Shelley Collins Photography William O'Brien Literary Susan Casuras Sports Carleen Pitcher Advertising Edward Wilson Advertising Joanne Bariteau Patrons Sandra Garrity Subscriptions Marilyn Warnick Subscriptions Linda Mirocki Typing 6 Staff ADVERTISING: C. You have given the stu- dents leaving Waterford a fine ex- ample of dedication to follow. 8 . . . Leading And Following 9 MR. CHARLES M. FITZPATRICK I congratulate you on your accomplishment. The “Class of 66” should derive a feeling of satisfaction to know it has carried on the tradition of issuing the school annual; especially in this time of change when greater demands are being placed on students to accomplish more academically, inside and out- side the classroom. It is wise to be “traditional” in some ways. Superintendent 3 MRS. RUTH PITCHER 10 MRS. MARGARET HUBERT MR. ROBERT A. WHALEN “May the spirit of enthusiasm be with you throughout your lives. If you face life with enthusiasm, life will turn to you with success. Congratulations to the Class of 1966.” MRS. JUNE JUDGE, Secretary Treasurer Principal 11 1966! The magic year for you has arrived at last! It means the happy conclusion of years of hope, of fun, of activity, and of work, and it is marked by the pub- lication of this yearbook. It means also Commencement—commencement for each of you of new hope, fun, activity, and work— another way of life. May further success and happiness attend you all the way, and may you bring happiness to all whom you meet and serve along that way! ■yn. T Guidance MRS. JACQUELINE SMITH, Secretary MR. Head Custodian. Teaching And Learning 16 Never is enough said for the faculty of this or any school system. It is the faculty who molds the stu- dents into young men and women so that they may constructively take their place in a modern society. We would, therefore, like to thank the faculty for their marvelous job and express the hope that their belief in us will not be in vain. A Never Ending Process 17 MR. W. DAVID ZELIE MR. NICHOLAS SAPPONE MR. BURRILL BURKE There is a very important place for science in a school. It attempts to give the student the answer to what makes our world tick ’ - what holds it to- gether. The students confront nature and analyze it. Numbers are all important in today's modern world. We are more conscious of them today than ever before. The student who is adept at working with them will never be out of demand. Math MRS. ELIZABETH SALISBURY MISS MARY FILER MR. EUGENE STANCZYK MR. LAWRENCE CERRI MR. ROBERT WARD The mastery of our language is a vital accomplish- ment. Our English Department serves the purpose of ac- quainting students with the language and literature. It also assures that at the time of graduation, they are fully conversant in both the written and the spoken word. 20 Languages French and Latin are the two languages in our language depart- ment. Languages make the stu- dent well-rounded and supply him with a sound foundation for further education. MR. ORLANDO PALLOZZI 21 MISS ELIZABETH GOOLD MRS. HELEN SAUNDERS Business The business world is a highly competi- tive one. Those who succeed must be pro- ficient in their field. Our business depart- ment sees that students do become profi- cient and are adequately equipped to com- pete in the outside world. 22 A knowledge of Social Studies is vital for anyone, no matter what branch of life he enters. It is the common denominator of an education. The better one understands its elements, the better educated he is and thus the better equipped he will be. Social Studies MR. EDWARD COLLINS MR. JOHN La BOM BARD MR. ALFRED CALABRESE MR. BRADFORD LONG DO MR. MARVIN GOLDSTEIN The music and art departments have the job of introduc- ing students to culture and the expression of their inner feel- ings. These departments can never be eliminated unless we L Fine Arts 3 24 sacrifice our standards of a well-rounded curriculum. In today's practical world a man or woman can never be too well acquainted with the correct way of living and making a living. The shop and home economics classes provide a good background for everybody. MISS ELIZABETH ENSIGN 25 MR. W. CUNTON MERRITT A healthy body and a healthy mind go hand in hand - a little trite but true, none the less. It is a rough world for the man or woman who cannot keep pace with it be- cause he or she is not physically fit. MR. MICHAEL KOPCZA C Physical Education 3 26 Library A library book is a storehouse of know- ledge and a library is a storehouse of books. The student who is familiar with the li- brary - familiar with all its uses, is the stu- dent who is well-read, knowledgeable, and sophisticated in his reading tastes. The value of a well-stocked library such as ours can not be overestimated. MRS. E. BID WELL The students in the special class are ex- pertly trained by Miss Brackett in basic skills in order that they may become use- ful and productive citizens. She is doing a fine job. The erasure cleaning job is done by the special class testifies to the results. Special MISS D. BRACKETT 83 % Sports It is a proven fact that sports, despite the amount of skill possessed by the individ- ual, builds character. The benefits derived are much more valuable than the one lost record. In later life the principles of fair play and sportsmanship learned in high school athletics will result in a better individual. 30 31 . . . Winning And Losing Soccer FRONT ROW: M. Kopcza, coach; R. Wilson Class Will To the Class of '69, we leave our discarded dreams and the next three years of high school. Don't let homework get you down and always try to remember the purpose for education. To the Class of '68, we leave our memories of the old school and our hope that your high school years will be as memorable and fruitful as ours have been. To the Class of '67, the Seniors of next year - we leave our lockers and this advice: Cherish your last year, save every minute of it; for before you know it, it will be your last. Alma Mater The guiding spirit of our youth, Our Alma Mater dear, You lead us ever onward. To knowledge and to truth. Your praises now we loudly sing As we pledge ourselves so true By lives of worth and high endeavor Honor e'er to you. Our emblem of strength and youth, Your colors, red and white, Will stand before us ever A symbol of your truth. We sing to you with pride sincere And promise e'er to try To prove our love for you, our own— Dear Waterford-Halfmoon High. 112 Often overlooked is the role of the photographer in preparing a yearbook. The staff suggests what type of picture must be taken, but it is the photographer who decides what the actual picture will be. Therefore, we wish to thank Joe for the excellent job and the hard work he has done for us. J. H. WINCHELL in The two words, Thank You cannot begin to express the gratitude the year- book staff holds to Mr. Calabrese. The yearbook is the most important and meaningful project a class can under- take; and the advisor's job, the most demanding. He must be aware of all the activities of the staff, and be able to pull together all the loose ends as the deadline approaches. We would like to thank you. Mr. Calabrese, for the wonderful job you have done. ALFRED J. CALABRESE • — - v; ••• . . ; ■ . • . ; -■ ■ ■ . ■ • : ' . . ■ • v •. . - . . ■ ” .'A - N-A- •• - ; • -
