THE ALMA MATER 1. The guiding spirit of our youth, Our Alma Mater dear. You lead us ever onward To knowledge and to truth. Your praises now we loudly sing As we pledge ourselves so true By lives of worth and high endeavor Honor e'er to you. 2. Our emblem of strength and youth, Your colors, red and white. Will stand before us ever A symbol of your truth. We sing to you with pride sincere And promise e’er to try To prove our love for you, our own -- Our own dear Waterford High. MOMENTS TO REMEMBER Class of 1957, this is YOUR LIFE! Do you remember how it began four long years ago? As Freshmen, you spent your first ten months at Waterford High in a blissful hustle and bustle. Under the irreplaceable guidance of Mrs. Helen E. Saunders, you began to fill your treasury with profits from the hard work put into the sale of plastic products and with the overwhelming success resulting from your first attempt at presenting a dance. The Moonlight Fiesta was the high spot of your first high school year and rewarded all your hard work with a barrel of fun, giving you confidence in yourself and forming the first part of a reputation that was to follow you all through school. Feeling very proud of yourself, you made a good showing on Moving-Up Day by tying for second place in the field day awards. The following summer seemed very long because of your eagerness to return, as Sophomores, to this new-found source of happiness. When September finally rolled around, you had all grown to fit your tenth grade shoes just in time for a big year ahead. With the introduction of disc jockey Bill Pope, at one Sophomore Dance, your individuality began to be recognized and it seemed that every Class of '57 venture was destined to succeed. Further proof of this were the Winter Wonderland, a Christmas dance, food sale, and a Christmas card drive, leaving your treasury splitting at the seams. You managed to concentrate on the curricular part of school long enough to present the Senate with the idea of the present revised school day. However, the indoor work could not have dulled your sportsman- ship, for on Moving-Up Day in May, 1955, you placed first in the Field Day Events. As Juniors, no spirits were dampened, for, as it was now traditional, you again enjoyed success in every attempt. First, came the Pop Song Contest and the winning of the Pop Song Award. Then came another card drive and many wonderful dances. Time was flying fast, for in February you were presented with those long awaited class rings, making you full fledged Juniors. That old grandfather's clock was really catching up with you because soon you began planning for your Senior Yearbook. Where did all those months fly? Did they slip by while you were dancing till twelve, or traveling door to door with a box of Christmas cards under your arm? They must have, because before you could say Yay, for the green and white, you again found yourself accepting the Field Events plaque for placing first on Moving-Up Day. V Knowing this was to be your last year, September of '56 found the Seniors quite melancholy. However, once activities began to flourish, there wasn't much time for meditation. Besides an occasional class or two, there were: magazine sales, dances hi-lighted with the Formal, your fun-filled senior play, Best Foot Forward, yearbook work, the Junior-Senior Banquet at which the younger generation footed the bill, and the yearbook banquet. And all the while, there was that wonderful anticipation of the unexpected that had always provided good reason to pay so much for that dress or to hunt up that dreaded job for the money to take your best girl to the Prom. Every hour, every minute, every second, seems to have flown swiftly by. And with time, went part of youth, part of joy, part of life itself, to leave only memories. Perhaps these memories will some day fade, but die they will not, for the friendships and wonderful times of the then distant past will live on to remind you of these walls and the days when they rang witn laughter from the forty hearts of the CLASS OF 1957.
