“Preface It is with a deep feeling of pride that we present the 1956 Fordian, our goal of our four high school years. We have tried to include in it some of the wonderful moments and activities that we have shared at Waterford High School. We hope that the memories it brings will be pleasant ones that grow dearer as time goes on. Our first advisor was Prof. Baker, who struggled with us for a year and a half. Under his supervision we put on our first dance, May Day Frolic, which was a huge success. Prof, got the Christmas spirit very early that year and had us selling Christmas cards in the middle of October. We all thought it was kind of ridiculous, but we soon changed our minds when the money started rolling in. Most of our precious time that year was spent having fun annoying the teachers (as all Frosh do). Time went by so quickly that June exams seemed to sneak up on us. We pulled through that year with only a couple lagging behind but they caught up with us in January. The next year of high school held great expectations for us. We were determined to make our first million! We got under way with another dance. This time it was Autumn Serenade. Prof. Baker still had a little Christmas Spirit left over from the year before so we commenced to sell cards again. After keeping track of our sales for a couple of months even a math teacher gives up. Prof, decided that he would leave us in January and give some other Lucky person a chance. When we returned from Christmas vacation Miss Kehrer was our new advisor. Miss Kehrer had the card spirit too so as bold sophomores we began to sell all occasion cards. Completely exhausted and famished by that ordeal we decided to have a food sale and fatten up a little. We didn't sell much food but we ate a lot! Everyone needing exercise very badly, we put on our second dance of the year, a round and square dance. By the time courtesy week came along, we were a cinch to win. We were so tired we couldn't be discourteous if we tried. When June arrived we were all pretty bored with being Sophomores, so we studied real hard to pass our exams. September of fifty-four found us rested up and raring to go. Everything was the same at Waterford except the face behind the desk. Miss Kehrer had given up and Miss Filer was put in our custody. We decided to handle her a little more gently, 'cause we didn't want to have a bad record. After all, this was our third advisor in three years. Our Junior year was just one long string of activities. We started with a dance, Starlite Serenade. Then we sponsored the Junior Senior Banquet and gave the Seniors a good feed at Reich’s Restaurant. The day that every Junior waits for finally came on February 16. Our rings arrived! Then the Junior Class put on the biggest dance of the year -- the prom. Since courtesy week had gone over so big the previous year, they decided to try it again. Naturally, the Class of 1956 won! The remaining school year was peaceful for us Juniors and we just spent our time enjoying life and doing a little studying. Finally, our last year together at W.H.S. arrived. The Class of 1956 had only one big worry in September but boy was it a big one — MONEY! We lost no time getting in the swing of activities. First we sold magazines and immediately started work on our yearbook. Just before Christmas vacation, we held the Christmas Dance - Winter Holi- day. Then came the Junior-Senior Banquet, this time at the expense of the Juniors. We also put on a food sale and a Hoe Bo Hop. Now it was time to start preparing for our Senior play You Can't Take It With You, which was a huge success under the direction of Miss Helen Gainor. All our thoughts and time from that mement on were turned toward graduation. This will be a memorable day in our lives. On June 25th, the Seniors will step forward to receive their diplomas, their ticket to the outside world. Wherever we go no matter how far away, we will always remember our dear Alma Mater with great pride. Advisor | Vj (V ..in MMflS. To the teachers we leave many thanks for their help as we made our way toward the final goal — GRADUATION. To the Juniors, we leave our remarkable ability to get along with the other classes and among ourselves. To the Sophomores, we leave a bag full of good wishes for their Junior and Senior years. May these final years be as happy and successful as ours were. To the Freshmen, we leave our love for learning, which they will do plenty of in the next three years. To the Eighth grade, we leave our class colors -- blue and white -- and our room 306, still filled with the memories of the work and play, the success and failures, the fun and worries, die joys and disappointments and the laughter and tears that will always be a lasting memento of the four most wonderful years of our lives. Last, but certainly not least, to Miss Filer, each and every member of the Class of 1956 leaves his sincere thanks and gratitude for all the trust, devotion, kindness and understanding given to us during our last two years.
