LONGHORN Carroll Iahue Sklppv Woodruff and Tommy Wells kept themselves breathless falthfully 1unn1ng around the rlwer regardless of the changlng elements of weather keepmg ln trlm shape for the track meets In what seemed l1ke no tlme at all we had become IUHIOFS a llttle older a l1ttle more sophlstlcated and deflnltely a very utal part of Water burv Hlgh The honor of cla s presldent and cl iss marshal for the senlors was bestowed upon Roger Merchant Ann MllllHgt0H filled the ofhce of vlce presldent Elleen Ashley as secretary was kept busy taklng notes on all our varlous pro1ects and Rachel Rlchardson our treasurer found plenty to do 1ust countlng and keep1ng track of 111 the money we made Thls year our basketball stars lncluded Barbara Glbbs Ann Mllllng ton and Sklpper Morse the latter belng one of the famous Northern League Champlons Thls mdeed was a basketball season long to be remembered by all Our second attempt at dramatlcs was Sugar and Splce a one act play coached by our new aduser Mr Hosk1ew1cz Starrlng IH th1s com edy were Sally Spence Ann M1ll1ngton Joy Bartlett Tommy Wells and Maurlce Balley Wlthln a short tlme after our play lt was t1me for the annual prlze speaklng contest Our yunlor class was proud to enter four contestants Elleen Ashley Ann M1ll1ngton Joy Bartlett and Thomas Wells Flrst prlze Went to Joy Bartlett In the field of muslc Ramona Belanger and Ann Mlll1HgtOH were chosen to tlckle the1r vocal chords at the All State Muslc Festlval 1n Bur llngton Muslc students 2YV3.lt th1s festnal w1th bated breath ID hopes that they w1ll be chosen to attend Now came the most magnlflcent event of the year the Junlor Prom the nlghts 1n preparatlon for thls 8XClt1Ilg event The tlme crept closer and we worked harder staylng up t1ll the wee wee hours trylng to get the last decoratlon 1n Its approprlate place Then the awalted day came It was finlshed and a spectacular s1ght lt was' The Escorts a very com petent band from MOFFlSXlll8 prox lded the enloyable muslc for our Treas ure Island theme With the concluslon of the prom the yunlors made a startllng dlSCOV ery In the 8XC1t6I116I1t of the prom and varlous other 3.Ct1W1tl6S we had forgotten all about puttlng on the trad1t1onal Junlor three act play Leave It to the class of 52 to be dlfferent and break a long tlme trad1t1on of Waterbury Hlgh We were reallv sorry but we dec1ded we could compen sate by puttlng on an extra speclal one our senlor year In the late sprlng the faculty chose two glrls and two boys from our class to represent Water burs Hlgh at Glrls and Boys State Elleen Ash ley Ann M1ll1ngton Daxld Welch and Roger Merchant were the lucky ones Elleen Ashley elected governor of Glrls State also had the rare opportunltv to go to Glrls Natlon 1n Washlngton for a week durlng the summer xacatlon Elleen IS the hrst g1rl ever to be chosen from Water bury to go to G1rls Natlon and needless to say we were all tremendously proud to have her as a member of our class Fall rolled round and the blg moment came We were at long last senlols grown up now or supposedly so and well prepared for the year of hard work we were fat ng To f1ll the all lmpoltant role ot senlor presldent we re elected Roger Merchant wlth Maurlce Balley ass1st1ng hlm as uce presldent Nancy Slavton competently hlled the ofhce of secretary md DdX1d Welch kept track of ou1 evex lncreaslng plle ot money J s . 1 ' K . , . . , . ..
