'Gaining Confidence' Coach Mounts, when asked about the volleyball team, replied: The 1982 Wildcat Volleyball team was outstanding. Led by Co- Captains Gaynell Glass and Becky Hargraves, the Wildcats finished a close second in district play, and then proceeded to win bi-district, area, and the first round of regionals before being stopped by Bronte. This placed them in the top 8 in the state. An assortment of crippling injuries could have side-tracked this team, but didn't, which speaks for their character. It was a privilege to coach them, and I will certainly miss them. With perfect timing, Becky Hargraves outpushes her opponent. As Coach Mounts yells Bend your knees, Freshman Gwen Upchurch uses her own style of bumping the ball.
28 'A REWARDING SEASON' Diann Farris felt that the 1982 Volleyball season was very rewarding. As a senior, it will stand out most in my mind as a season full of hard work and dedication. We all overcame many setbacks that could have been discouraging. After the Regional Tournament we all felt the hard work and dedication was well worth it. I would also like to say, on behalf of the team, a special thanks to Coach Mounts, who had to put up with us through thick and thin and he never gave up on us. Gaynell Glass exhibits her spiking ability against the Lake View Maidens.
