We are the Warriors who read the ARROWHEAD, who live in Watchung, who pic- nic in the Reservation. We live in an area once in- habited by the Unami Indians, a branch of the Lenni- Lenape Tribe. The symbol of this tribe was the turtle which in Indian mythology was Atlas, who car- riedthe World on his shoulders. Indians are our heri- tage and so, the LENAPE was born. LENAPE means very original people, a reflection of what we hope to be . . . This is our starting place and the aim of our Warriors. Thus We have the 1963 LENAPE, a pictorial survey encompassing the life within our school. Here is the LENAPE, running the gamut from the seriousness of physics class to life after school in the lounge. This is 1963 recaptured. 0 633 4 1-rhknwu, virgin- -r.u-asihd we-4 CO-EDITORS-WINIFRED HEINRICH AND KATHLEEN WOODS, BUSI- NESS MANAGER-CONSTANCE WARREN, COORDINATOR-STEPH- ANIE MATHEWSON, COPY EDITOR-KATHRYN EHRHARDT, ART EDITORS-ANNE CARVER AND JANET BEISSERT, PHOTOGRAPHY EDITOR ELLEN POWELL, ACADEMICS-PENNY JANELLI, SPORTS EDITOR-CAROLYN GREENHOUSE ' ' -.'.f ' . We shouted the revolt song and paraded for our freedom with sandwich boards and posters--the iirst big spree of the class of '63. Later came Aloha with the eighth graders. We had Hawaii in the cafeteria with live palm trees and handsome hula dancers, dancing to the music of guitar and song. fand near tragedy with grass skirts on Tom and Tom.D We reveled in drama-melodrama at least. Sophomore year was the year of the Y party and the gala production: a play, dancers, J ada-J ada. There was the skating party at George's skating pond, tobogganing and trying to keep warm by drinking cocoa at the bonfire. The Filibuster Fling came with Smiling Charlie Clancy. Our only hidden secret was that the Republicans won in our election in a Democratic year . . . but the Carousel made up for that error in calculations. The cotton candy all over the school . . . in fact, the nicest the school ever smelled . . . the memory of the fat ladies selling popcorn balls . . . Junior year was all seriousness-we never did get our social event to the shore. We were out to try the new and daring. We held a couples' dance-money wasn't important, or so we thought later. The prom, Moonlight and Roses, was held at the ill-fated Washington House, and was a huge success. This year's prom was greater . . . Senior year: year of last-minute everything: college boards, seventh semester grades, waiting for accept- ance, trying to find a job, meanwhile trying to enjoy the freedoms of a graduate-to- be. We have contributed to the Foreign Exchange Program, spent money on the greenhouse, worked on dress codes for students and faculty. We have written for the Corner, starred on varsity teams, made the honor roll, argued with the student government. We have been a class unique for its creativity-a class unique because of its individualism. 46 - o 6 ,, cb 0 Q cc f 9 1 0' 0 Gr- 'I ob Y oo 0 de 0 SENIOR G.L.C. Row 2.' Mr. O'N Perabo, I. Benham R. JUNIOR CLASS HISTORY The Junior Class is credited with the success of their unique pie sale and for sponsoring the annual Student-Faculty Basketball Game with such outstanding players as: Bomber, Rebound, Crash, Zip, and Ozone. As freshmen the Class of ,64 held Can Can-the Parisienne dance with charming male dancers. Easter baskets were prepared by the class for the Childrenis Country Home in Mountainside, New Jersey. Sophomore year passed with bake sales and two dances. Fiddle 'N Straw was especially memorable because students wore dungarees and sat on hay stacks instead of the conventional chairs. During the Junior Year they sponsored the Report Card Rock with report cards and DR's adorning the cafeteria. A good time was had by all in spite of the theme. Another dance was held in April, fol- lowed by the Junior-Senior Prom at the Chanticleer in May. 72 HOMEROOM 001-MR. KOVONUK Row 3: C. Pierce, J. Blozies, B. James, L. Reinking, B. Warnicki, K. In our freshman year we had a unique concession during the Christmas season, a sale of Christmas tree ornaments. This year we sponsored two dances, the Hrst a Freshman-Sophomore Orientation dance and the second a New Year's dance, aptly named, '4It,s About Time. We also held two cake sales and ran the concession for selling food at the basketball games. We look forward to more happy and productive years in the future, During our senior year, we hope that we will be able to subsidize caps and gowns as well as Prom tickets. Our Class of 1965 has indeed had a successful sophomore year at W.H.R.H.S. and, we feel confident, will strive for greater success as upperclassmen. 4838 Row 3: M. Soriente. P. Green, K. Lurie, J. FRESHMAN CLASS HISTORY After a late start the Freshman Class elected the capable leaders Jerry Beardsley, Pam Jones, Ginny Cline, and Joe Terrible as officers of the newly-formed GLC. They staged a very successful and riotous Freshman-Faculty Basketball Game in the early winter followed by a dance, U23 Skidoo,', with a roaring 20's theme. Orientation for the incoming freshmen was held on February 5. This was carefully planned and seemed to be quite successful in accomplishing its purpose. A committee was established to handle orientation plans with Dave Pierson as its chairman. A dance in May was held for the freshmen and Sth grades to help the Class of '67 get acquainted with their classmates. The Class of '66 has had an exciting, as well as educational, first year in W.H.R.H.S. Row 2: L. Forhlig, R. Axelrod, B. Lawrence, C. Wilczak, J. Kempson, M. McLinskey, R. Siegrist, F. Cyrsky, R.
